Terrified for my Subs life :(

I'm sure I'm over reacting but I was sitting testing my 18" RE SX and noticed a funny noise coming from it. I have it running off of 20w out of a little amp I have for testing. I had my Multimeter hooked up so I knew how much power it was putting out. Anyhow it wasn't clipping, gain a bit below half. Playing some random music and it's like... a tiny high pitched warbley noise. Coming from one of the... sets of Tinsel Lead areas. When I spin the sub around I can hear it get louder when one of the two VC's is facing me. It's like after the hit you hear it, as if its when it is returning to its original position. Do you think something could have gotten in the coil? A little crumb or something or a tiny plastic bit. Maybe some sheath from a stripped wire? I'm terrified! I just spent 265$ on this thing and have put power through it maybe three times so far and already this. Am I over reacting? I don't think it would be picked up by a microphone on my camera so I could show you guys it in action. What should I do? Is it nothing? Ahhh!

Here's my take. Take it was a grain of salt, because I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Some woofers make mechanical noises. IIRC, the closer the bobbin is to the gap, the more likely you are to get it. Especially if the woofer has yet to be broken in, since the extra stiff spider might be a hair off center. If I also RC, the SX / MT have really tight clearances in that area for efficiency reasons.

That, or it could be excess glue.

My advice- it can only do two things - get better, or get worse. So break it in, by the book. If it's glue or suspension, it will go away. If it's the motor, your SX was doomed anyway.

I hope it is just mechanical noise! What worries me most is that it didn't sound like this as far as I can remember the first or second time I powered it up. Again though I'm running it off a non clipped 20w and 40w signal... It can't have done any damage to a mighty SX could it? I was just basically listening low volume and watching it move majestically.Does anyone with one of these maybe recognize the sound?

where did you order it from? does it have a warranty. if it does call them and ask them. other then that idk. i get a strange sound from my bass tube every now and then but it dont really worry me. i didnt pay anything for it. sometimes it makes noises and sometimes it dont. i did notice its more noticable at low volume so you might wanna add some power to it and see how it does. thats just my 2cents tho.

I highly doubt you could kill that SX with 20 or 40 watts regardless of how bad it was clipped.

I'd say if you are that worried about it, go get a new amp and get that thing powered properly, then see if it makes the noise.

Well thats a releif if it is just normal noise for operation and I'm only hearing it because I have so little power going into it. Also, yes I am putting 40 w through it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I test it on a tiny Lanzar Opti 50wx2 amp, hooked up to a battery charger that only puts out enough amperage for about 40 or so watts.

I think the noise is the sub laughing at the 20 watts.
lol let's hope so! No one knows of any good deals on anything to get this thing to stop laughing? Maybe some good amps to look at.
