Tempest X sub

I'll tell you what. I'll trade you my 15" xxx which can easily take 2k watts and I'll trade you for 6 of those subs? The rms is pretty close, so it's a fair trade. How's that sound?

i would never get one............. needs a box thats waaaaaaaay 2 big for my taste
2.5-3 cubes sealed is way too big?

There is nothing about these (the Tempest-X or the Shiva-X) that makes them need ridiculously large enclosures....they're roughly the same as other 12" and 15" drivers. Don't be fooled by the Home Theater enclosure recommendations that Kevin makes....they work just fine in your standard medium sized enclosures.

'tis why you go IB. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.. to hell with boxes.

hmm, well i guess if watts doesnt mean that much, i could just set it up in a nice box, and give it the 15rms off my head unit and be just as loud as i would with 1600rms going to it from my hifonics?

Sorry for being a smartass, and maybe im wrong, but 300rms just doesnt seem like much. It would seem like youd need much more watts than that to get relatively loud. I know a LITTLE about car audio at the moment so maybe thats the problem here, but most loud systems ive heard are usually running over 1000rms atleast. Never heard one with 300rms so i guess i cant judge right away

Efficiency > power.

I'm running 8 watts in my main home system, and don't need any more...it's all in the speakers, enclosure, and how they work together.

300W is plenty depending on your goals and how you use it...I have 250W on my Shiva in an inefficient sealed enclosure, but I'm more concerned with accuracy than getting loud at all.
