TC Sounds?

I'm sure you've done significant testing with the motor, correct?

indeed.

a good underhung design can easily be on par or greater than the xbl^2 design, xbl simply costs less to produce and achieves similar results.

XBL2!XBL2!!! XXX HAS XBL2?? I WANT ONE!! WHAT AA HAS XBL2!? GIMME GIMME! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/greedy.gif.5a53e6246569d7ab79867170f3b06629.gif

id put up a soundplinter rl-P against an AA avalance anyday. and the RL-p dosent rely on some bling bling quasi-underground buzz word.

oh by the way, the brahma is one of my favorite drivers ever.

How much would it cost to design an underhung motor with the same THD and IMD #'s to that of an Xbl^2 motor, with the same BL/excursion curve over a 30+mm stroke...?

Also....something Dan Wiggins said a while back-

Consider the old MASS 2012 and the Brahma 12. Both have around the same levels of Xmag (26-29mm), the MASS is underhung (relatively flat). The MASS's voice coil is a 10 layer, 0.5" long unit, 3" in diameter, with a BL of 11.5 N/A. Re is 2.74 Ohms. The Brahma's voice coil is 1.1" long, 4 layers, 3" in diameter, with a BL of 15.9 N/A, and an Re of 2.8 Ohms.

So the MASS motor has a lower motor force factor (lower BL for the same Re), uses more wire (10 layers, 0.5" long = 5 "inches" of windings versus 4 layers 1.1" long = 4.4 "inches" of windings), and when I measured the voice coil, it was actually 18 grams heavier than the Brahma's voice coil. We have 38% more BL, and 12% less windings.

And...

Underhungs require a LOT more top plate or thicker voice coils or both to get anywhere near the Xmag and flux efficiency of an XBL^2 motor

eh, that example you got off of their website is really a crappy comparison. That mass 2012 is completely outdated. That design's BL is ridiculously low, 11.5?

and agreed. the xbl^2 achieves the same or better reults for much cheaper.

likewise for other motors as well.

simply put, xbl^2 is not the be all, end all of subwoofer techonolgy.

LMT, along with other structures, can easily perform on par or outdo XBL^2 platforms, and i think that is simply ignored by alot of people.

Yeah, but IIRC, the motor design used on the Mass is still used today...

I'm not saying that Xbl is all there is to motor toplogies-- but it's a **** good design and it's pretty cost efficient when you think about what you can get out of an Xbl motor for the price.

AFAIK, the LMT really hasn't hit home with too many people out there yet, and from what I can recall, TC charges a lot for their LMT designs. Also, in what aspects can the LMT outperform an Xbl motor? I really don't know much about the LMT design...

LMT, lineare motor technology. Probably wasnt a good comparison considering it is very likely it will not make it into production/implementation now that stephen ponte has left TC sounds.

LMT technology can be seen in action on the LMT, custom A, and 3hp protos on realmofoexcursion.

i really dont have much info on it except all the "super" LMT subs made have easily 38mm+ xmax and a ridiculous BL.

look on SD.com for several threads or posts by my friend Vitveet. should help out a little.

only downfall was that only SVC LMT was created (or has been to my knowledge), form what i hear TC sounds inconsistey lacked the funds to create dvc+.

I wouldnt be so sure tc doesnt have the ability to make lmt anymore. Its not like sp had all the design memorized in his head. I have heard that tc is just waiting for someone to buy the technology rather than go ahead and use it themselves.

Just curious...how many Avalanches have you played with? What enlcosures were they in? How much power were you running? In car or in home?

Oh, and have you compared the Rl-p in the same car? With similar setups? What power were you running to those?

All the knowledge in the world of a driver doesn't allow you to stack them up against one another with such certainty if you haven't played with them both.

oh i know, i wasnt saying that just because SP left, just because of all the things ive been hearing about TC. there was a roumour a while back they were going to sell the technology/design to eclipse
