Here is a great question for you to ask yourself..........just read it aloud, in front of a mirror, with inquisitive inflection in your voice.

"If I were to sit in my favorite chair in my living room, listen to my favorite CD, all while having my best friend move my home subwoofer slowly around the room..........will I be able to tell a difference in sound"?

If you do not know the answer to this, I implore you to go through said motions and answer that question for yourself. The newer version has a lower Q so its not as flat, as low as the original but all in all, anyone below an expert couldn't explain the difference probably, and some people I've auditioned them for couldnt hear below 22Hz anyway lol. All in all, I think the current LMS 5400 is a better value than the original, and the "upgraded spiders" were a waste. The original spiders could handle 4" P-P the new even more but the spiders were never it's mechanically limiting factor, rearward clearance and Surround have always been what kept it from being capable of more stroke.
