TC Sounds LMS Ultra 18" vs. RE Audio XXX 18"

have you ever heard an lms? best low end driver out there, period. also probably the best home theater driver. lms coil technology is king at under 30hz. the resonances are at around the 80-100hz range. the 60hz+ range on the lms is their only downfall. but subs shouldn't be playing in that range anyways
nope I never listened to it I bought it for a trash can, The XXX beat it at lows sorry you can't handle that opinion. Have you heard both? I doubt it.

and as far as SQ the lms takes it imo, the XXX is to boomy for me

Boominess describes frequency response. Saying it was boomy is a tell-tale sign of an improper enclosure. The sub does not dictate frequency response, the combination of sub/enclosure/environment does. But ironically I come full circle to agreeing with you, because RE intentionally publishes enclosure recommendations that are too small, because the requirements for a new XXX in a proper aligned box is much larger than competing drivers from other companies. So they end up getting a lot of customers who dislike their product because the output is peaky in RE's recommend enclosure sizes.

HT people love the new XXX, they can build a nice big enclosure for them because space in their living room is much easier to sacrifice than is space in their Honda Civic.

Your opinion is highly valued....which would you prefer in a install such as mine?

What type and size enclosure would be best for both?

When I say 'best' I mean for MY expectations....great sound quality with a huge low end as well...

A quick look at the subs' EBP will give you a good idea what type of enclosure they want, and a modeling program with accurate t/s specs should give you a good idea of box requirements. IIRC, the new XXX 12 likes around 6 cubes ported, and 3-4 cubes sealed.

think I'm gonna run with the TC....not a big price difference....and i'm not completely sold on the xxx.....wish i could hear both of them in action in a sealed enclosure beforehand but....good luck with that
