Tap off Cigarette Lighter for Amp Remote Wire?

Guys this probably sounds so retarded but I had to ask, I've tried nearly every wire on my wiring harness and couldnt get a signal to my amp to turn it on so now im asking if I could tap off my cigarette lighter, and if I do could I risk damaging anything ?

What color wire should it be?

most cars the cigerette lighter stays on constantly after the car is shut off, so your amps would never shut off. tap into your red acc wire, or amp turn-on lead

It stays on in most trucks and older cars, but I know that on my car it it ignition switched.

You want to tap the wire that goes to the center of the lighter. You should be able to tap the ignition wire for the HU though. If you search http://www.installdr.com/ for your car it will tell you what wires are what in the factory radio harness.

Do Toyota's have the same style of radio like GM's do? Where the data-bus tells the radio to turn on with a signal? or is it just a 12 volt switched power wire like aftermarket H/u's have?

well i forgot this is a stock radio so the wire probably won't be red. you'll have to check the diagram and see which wire is the acc. wire

on install doctor is says a grey wire is the switched 12 volt on a 1999 corolla, thats all they had, they don't have a 2007.

If it turns on with a signal your SOL, you will have to find a switched source somewhere else, or tap into a line and use a relay.

You were saying that you had installed a new headunit, and your uncle made you remove it. Did the headunit work with a switched 12 volt?

Tell me if your wiring harness on your 07' looks like the 1999 harness, I doubt it, but take a look.

omg....If your cig lighter operates with the key in the off position then dont use it but if the cig lighter doesnt operate in off position and only operates in the on positon, by all means tap into it.......its a simple test to find out

If not then u can find out which wire is the accessory wire on the radio.....
