might be a little late for this but as said before from SuperB there are 2 screws holding the center console(climate control/radio) but to access those 2 screws they are behind the panel which holds your cigarette lighter which is screwed in from behind.
you are going to have to remove the entire center console(cup holder/shift knob) that runs between the seats which will have the cigarette lighter panel attached. in total about 7 screws and 2 plastic lock/clips.
if you have an Automatic set the car in Neutral, use the E brake then turn the car off then remove the neg post to the battery, you will then need to shift the knob all the way back for this.
locate 2 plastic screw/cap(1 each side) looking things on the front of the console area where your feet would be. take a slim item and PUSH LIGHTLY on the little dot center until you here a click to unlock, then slip your hand behind and push it out. then you have to pry off the panel around the shift knob. use a THIN screw driver or a butter knife to slip under the panels to pry them up and off. locate 2 screws holding down the center console in that area. look inside the storage/arm rest under the rubber matting inside the storage, there is a screw there. put both front seats all the way forward then get in the back seat and look on both SIDES of the back end of the center console. there are 2 screws on each side.
make sure shift knob is all the way back to "2" and that the brake is pulled all the way up. lift the back end of the center console and pull. wiggle it around and it should come off.
when it is out of place locate the 2 screws holding the center cash control panel. remove those then with a wide/thin screw driver or butter knife slip them around the dash and pry out gently(not to cause cosmetic damage).
unclip all wire harnesses(A/c & Radio), remove the 3 A/c knobs(just pull them straight out), on the back of the back of the dash remove all screws holding the A/c control piece to gain access to the radio screws.
remove the radio screws and your set. after the new head unit is installed just repeat the instructions back wards. estimated time about 2hours.
you DO need to purchase an aftermarket HU mounting kit and a wire harness. an after market radio will NOT fit in correctly w/o a mounting kit. Go to
crutchfield.com to get a proper kit with installation master sheets. the master sheets they provide work for 2001+ but not really. they say to just pull out the cigarette lighter panel to access the 2 screws holding the center dash but the panel with the cigarette lighter is screwed in from behind. so don't try pulling. read my instructions before you do anything and locate the screws. then get to work.
