Take it for what you will...HDC vs TypeR *METERED*

Exactly
Thats prolly the biggest/only thing you should take from this

Both subs are great

But look at the price diff, 1000ish for 4 AQs and 400 for 4 Rs

You dont need the best equipment to get loud, just know what ya doing with what ya got....anything should get loud
where did you get four 12" R's for $400?

im in the market for 4 10"s

I dont get it...different power, different frequencies...how is this a "comparison"? I dont know anything about SPL numbers, but it seems like with all the different variables...there is no point...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Well I'm guessing that Skip aimed to try and get the highest numbers by setting up the subs the best way he could, thus comparing the max SPL he could get. Different subs will react differently to box size, tuning, etc. therefore the best comparison isn't always keeping every variable constant. If I'm not mistaking, he also said "take it for what it is."

ebay

x-sounds seller name

I think its around 460ish with everything

from 48 hz to 44hz.. no wonder it read lower #'s.
I wasnt asking why it was lower

I know why it was....my backseat was in making it damper a lil better and lower peak hz....but still only 1db off from a 300 dollar sub and lower peak

The only diff variable is the box....granted thats a huge diff but still

The point is......400 dollar subs vs 1000 dollar ones and you get 1db away with 4hz lower peak

I was sooooo surprised how close they were to the AQs i had to post

In my Expo that 4hz higher peak = about 0.4db. Give that lil extra power that the AQs were getting @ 0.25ohm to the Rs and I could see them doing the same #.

Yeh....thats creepy though ha

I have 2 40.1s waiting to go in for them;)

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I did some testing with a HDC315 (8 layer aluminum coils) and a Powerbass 3000d amp @ 0.5 ohm today. The highest score that I got at the headrest was 149.2 dB. With my Type R and a 2500.1 @ 1 ohm the highest score that I've gotten on my meter was a 148.9 So far the HDC3 is just barely louder and with more power. Keep in mind that I have a hard meter and I will post pictures of my score and the MECA show that I'm attending tomorow. I'm hoping for a 150 on their meter.

Here's the box:

The type R's are very loud for the price. I would think about them for my install if they could handle an AQ 2200 a piece for daily streetbeating and if they made an 18" version. But last I checked they did not. Someone let me know if they do!

They're loud on the meter but I still highly prefer the HDC3 for streetbeating. I can play the HDC3 at loud volumes for a much longer time without the coil getting hot.
