system isnt loud, 2 or 3 subs?

I have three JL audio w3v2 10's, Memphis 16mcd 1000 amp. wired at .63 ohms. The box is 3.95cu ft. in a firebird formula. it has 4 2inch ports 7.5 inches long. It's supposedly tuned to 32hz. got everything hooked up and hit a 139. I was told that if I took one sub out and put one 4 inch port it would be louder than the three 10's. is this true? I need someone to do the math for me and give me a second opinion. any ideas?

you're within the recommended enclosure volume for the 3 subs. recommended ported enclosure volume for those is right around the 1.3 per sub you have them in. taking 1 out will put it at around 2 per sub.

well 2 2" ports would equal up to 1 4" port so your still getting the same amount of air movement. if you take 1 sub out that will reduce your output! it really isnt a bad score for 3 w3's which arent realy designed for output. they fall into the sq category. but i will say i think you are lacking port area.

3.14 * 1^2 *2 = 6.28 sq inches

3.14 * 2^2 *1 = 12.56 sq inches

the single 4 would have double the port area

The way you typed that it seems you had a problem building your last box.....make sure it is completely sealed up

didn't want to build another box because its just a pain to take everything out, that I just put it and build another one. the guys at the local audio shop built a box that made the subs fire towards the tail lights, they sat down the small trunk compartment, the box was huge. you couldn't see the subs by looking in the back window. the front of the subs were only 4 maybe 5 inches from the back of the car. does that make sense? they had 2 alpine type Rs in it and hit a 150.2 its loud. They want 300 bucks to build that box. should I build a different box and keep the subs, or just buy different subs? I need ideas

build a box yourself, its inexspensive and the sense of accomplishment is good.
