Hello all, i've been a member here for a LONG time, just never really needed to post anything. I like to read all the great info here.

Well, i finally can use some advice from you guys. I currently have 2 JL 12W3v2d2's in a sealed http://www.subthump.com box under my rear seat in my '03 silverado SS extended cab. currently a JL 500/1 is powering the subs. The rest of my system sounds spectacular, except for the bass, i'm just not happy with it. The subthump box is a pre-made mail order box that has .92 cu ft. of air space. Now, i don't know what the JL subs call for in a sealed enclosure for air space, but i'm sure its more than .92 cu. ft. So there lies my first problem, but since I really need use of my back seat, a different box is almost completely out of the question, especially since i have NO wood working skills of my own, and local shops are always disappointing with there work.

My first attempt to get these subs louder is upgrading to a JL 1000/1. My reasoning behind this is simple. It just "sounds" like the W3's are starving for power. I should not have problems running this amp on those subs if i keep the gains down right?

If that dosn't work, my next step is to upgrade subs. I hate to go this far though, because the box i have is really limiting me on sub choices as its only 7inches deep. ALSO, any long excursion subs will hit the floor of the truck because the box fires down.

So, can anyone offer some suggestions here? Maybe fill the boxes will some poly fill to trick the subs?

ditch the backseat...

you can't get loud with 2 sealed 12's and 500 watts of power...

that sealed box is REALLY limiting you

thats my next truck..and I'm going to do 2 15's in a "wall type" setup...subs firing towards ground w/ port at top...i dunno what that is called but I helped someone install theirs

i suggest trying to lift the seat (they have special kits) about 2-4" and build a custom box...maybe try even porting it with thos presision ports.

also check out fullsizechevy.com forums...they are very helpful

i know a guy on there who has the same problem

Or you can try this ?

these trucks are extremely difficult to get to sound good. that box isnt big enough for two twelves. plus i have come to find that two tens generally work better in that cab. there are many tricks to building a box in that truck. the power that you have and the box that the woofers are in are killing your low end bass.

that is what i am going to. i just dont have enough power for the ssi. i had a pair of tsi's in it, and they were the loudest thing i have ever had in my truck, just too much power for them.

holty.........im guessing the subs dual coil. since each speaker has 2 coil connect the(+) of one coil to the next and the (-)of 1 coil to the other coil repeat this to the other speaker. and it should give you some bump

Only real way to get anything loud out of these trucks is to take the seat out. These trucks are easy to get loud if you take the back seat out.......nothing special just take out the seat and throw a big box back there. subs facing towards the front with the port facing up. But your going sealed so just face them whatever way you want. Stick with your twelves they'll be louder than the same 10's if given the correct space.

to do those two 12"s properly, the box would have to be sticking out into the footwell of the rear passengers. it simply isnt that great of a setup. taking out the rear seat is gay. you might as well do a cut through if you are going to do that.

I am going to be getting a 1999-2000 gmx seirra ext cab. I thinking of putting an 18'' XXX in the back, what would eb the best way to set it up ? in was thinking sub up and port up ?

Personally i wouldnt spend the money on subs and amps if you are going to put them under the seat. Its hard to make them loud let alone sound decent

thanks for the help everyone. loosing the backseat is not an option, but i admire your effort LOL.

I was thinking about rasing the seat a couple inches and having a custom box done. my only problem there is that i already cut the tabs down that hold the back of the seat to the back wall of the truck, so if i raise the seat any, it MIGHT not catch on the brackets, and my seat will come flying forward folding itself down everytime i hit the brakes. I have to look at it some more though, i'm not sure how much play i have there.

I'll be putting the 1000/1 in on thursday, so i'll update you guys on what it sounds like. this is how i planned on wiring it:

mine sounds great. tons of low bass and tight upper bass. and with the tsi's it sounded even better and louder, but thats only because i lack power for the ssi's. the ssi's were kinf of an experiment anyway.
