sx vs hdc3... which his lower/has better sound quality

as far as amp goes, either a hifonics bxi1608 or an audiopipe ap15001, the audiopipes are cea rated at 1500@1ohm, and my previous hifonics amps have never let me down, so its a toss up.

recommended box for these is 2.5? or 2? planning on tuning to 38hz

and yeah i just happen to have the next 3 days off so im going to start building a new box, double baffle with 1" dowels front to back, side to side, and top to bottom for support, it should be built like a tank when its done, 2 4" aero ports, sub will be firing forward on passanger side, port firing sideways on drivers side

I'd say go with the Hifonics, but I have no experience with the Audiopipe. I think it might be worth it for you, since the hifonics are a little overrated, to save up the extra 70-90 and get the 2008, and then just set the gains accordingly. It would be a very good investment and it would push the HDC much nicer.

And yes, recommended box from DJ is 2.5 cubes after port, brace and driver displacement are subtracted. That is what my friend has it in and it is perfect.

Haha. We are on pretty much on exactly the same page...cept I don't have my 2x15 HDC's yet and active front stage.
Dam n, you peaked at 31 hz. You got me. The reason why I was saying that was I remember a thread recently where some guy was not pleased at all with the low end output of his HDC, sub 32, and everyone told him "well that is expected with the box." Which, well, it is. Except in your case!

I can't really say anything else. I listen to everything, and a lot of metal...August Burns Red, Parkway drive etc. and I loved turning it up and feeling the drums. I'm getting 2 15 hdc's for the same reason. I loved my mag, don't get me wrong, but I am pretty sure I will like the sound of the HDC better. I learned through my mag that I needed a little more SPL oriented sub.

Peaking lower then box tuning is just how my install worked out in this car and actually isn't something I wanted. I've raised tuning to 42Hz now as I don't need the insane lows since I don't listen to rap. Still sounds very good and seems to hit a little harder on kick drums.

Metal does take a LOT of sub and strong midbass if you really want to be punched in the chest, so that's how I ended up with what I'm running now.

I do have a pretty solid front stage: spreads to both ends of the windshield, stage is a little above the dash, vocals are around 1/2 way up the windshield and centered, and bass is up front where it should be.

My experience has been that TA can make the bass/subs sound better, probably because it hits the ear at the same time as the rest of the freqs. When I turn it off the bass seems a little louder compared to the mids/highs.

Trust me I'm far from an expert or SQ elitist but I've managed to do pretty well with what I have. I'm a pretty critical listener when tuning, but don't make myself crazy chasing that last little bit.

Good luck on your active/HDC set up as it will take a little work, but the results should make you happy the first time you crank up some fast double kicks...

well im curious because the website says 2.5ft gross... i want to know what net is because im not using a slot port i'm using aero ports so the gross will be different

You can do 2 - 2.5cubes net. I did a box that was 4cubes net for 2 12's and it hit very hard and sounded good with a SD 1500D on each sub.

the aq will hit harder and lower ive seen some aq's flex the crap out of cars. but sound quality go with the RE SX.
