one major problem with setting your gains with a DMM...
impedence rise...

Same problem with your power calculation, as I'm sure that wasn't factored in. If impedence rise didn't matter... my orion 2500d is putting out 14,000 watts, instead of the actual 3300 tested RMS watts...

set it "properly" with a DMM and you'll never get the full potential of the amp.
Uhh, i guess i don't understand what you're saying, i set my amp how it said in the gain setting tutorial. sqr/600x4 is the calculation i used and i got 49 volts. Now what is wrong there?

You should have gotten the type-r man...
Lol, guess i felt like doing something different than the 132409809 other ppl that have them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif .

Ok, but that still doesnt say to put it on at full pass. 80 hrz is considered LP still. Anything above that isnt. You can have your LP on, and still have it crossed over at 80 hrz.
Ya, but he said to turn the amps crossover off, so to get the crossover off I have to turn it to all pass...

Ok, well what is impedence rise? I thought it was where you went from one impedence to another and the wattage changed right? For example an amp can put out 1000 watts @ 1ohm then do 600 @ 2 ohm right? Or am i wrong? And wouldnt they factor that into their ratings?

impedence rise happens when you have the coil moving through the gap... heat creates yet more rise.

To make life easy, assume your impedence will double whatever your DCR is... for a typical box alignment with a mid to high QTS woofer thats about how it works.

Low QTS woofer + spl alignment.... big fat NASTY imp rise... I've seen from 1 ohm DCR to 8 ohm actual!!! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

and no, manufacturers do not factor this in.

Hmm.. So how would you factor this in when using a DMM?

you really can't... as you dont know your exact rise.
IMO set the gain, adjust sub level until your happy and dont be scared to turn it up!
But the way you're saying it i should just set the gains till the subs sound good, which could cause clipping though... And with my amp rated at 4 ohms, can it even handle giving out more than 4 ohms or can that hurt the amp?

higher impedence will be easier on the amp.

measure AC current and AC voltage
You cant measure imp. rise, it changes with the frequency. If your playing one tone for spl it helps but for a system made for playing music you cannot accuratly measure it.

The lower the frequency the lower the imp. will be, and vise versa for high frequencys.

Just be careful setting the gains. Turn your gain to where you think it should be (without distorting) then as spkrman said turn up the bass boost to where you think it should be. The levels can always be readjusted
