Surround on a $2000 Budget

Can someone help me piece something together for a friend?

He doesn't want DIY mainly because he wants speakers ASAP. I'd think he would be happy with 5.1 sound, and also he's hoping that the speakers won't take up too much space.

Also - this doesn't have to be anything elaborate. Any help is appreciated..

he was looking at bose...

basically he knows little to nothing, just like me.

Whatever's clever though. He's looking to not take up a lot of space I think. Doesn't want massive speakers you know.

If he really is hell bent on buying one, then just go to every sound/electronics store within 50 miles of your home and Demo all that fits his size requirement and pick the one that sounds best to him. Otherwise everything else is just specualtion.

I like Polks could do the Monitors or RTi and stay within budget. I love mine.

Yes, but IMO if you can't afford the cream from companies like them, then their entry level usually isn't worth what they ask and comparable or better can be found at their entry level price points. If you buy entry level products from this sort of company, you are paying more for the logo than the hardware. Not my cup of tea.
