So I installed my subs on tuesday, it is now thursday and im still in the process in breaking them in, I was not planning on pounding them until next wednesday march 30th, because I was planning on a group ride with pictures/videos.

Well anyway I was gonna move my box to take a few pics of my subs in for all of you guys and I noticed something about one of my subs. The surround is comming off the cone... I am very surprised, maybe the sub was just bad? I have no idea what caused this. This only happened to that sub, not the other. The surround is almost a quarter off the cone. I dont really know what to do, I called my local audio shop, and they say that the sub will never sound as good as it did, a reglue may not last long, and may also cause tear/ or it will happen again..., and it cost around 30$ which I have no extra money. I also haven't played my subs since I saw the problem, as it may get worse.

So that really pissed me off as I just got these subs in a few days ago, I dont know if soundsplinter has a warranty but I would really like a brand new one by like next wednesday if possible, if not, I need some kind of temp fix for the ride, and maybe send it back out to Mike for a fix.

yea, both brand new, one has a logo, one doesnt, they were his LAST TWO 4ohm dvc, so I didn't feel like waiting, but the one with the logo is the one with the problem.

the only thing i got good out of this was that my gf felt sorry for me, and well you know the rest //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well the local guy must not be very good at regluing subs. If SS reglues it using the same process/glue they use new, I dont see why it would really hurt the performance or life of the driver. Gluing the surround on the second time is so much worse than the first time.... why? But yes, Id either make sure SS fixes it (not a local yocal), or they give you a replacement. These things happen, but sorry for your bad luck.

^^^ X2, im sure mike will take care of you.

yea mike has been nothing but good service so Im glad i went through SS. The local guy said where the old glue remains on the surround, it will turn brittle and eventually tear. But I would go to SS first anyway. Im waiting on mikes email.

That is just unlucky. 3 defective drivers so far and you get one of them. lol. I am sure mike will sort everything out for you, though.

that sucks especially since your

"look at my new RL-p" thread

is still on the front page...

im sure they will take care of it for

you though... SS/mike seems like an

honest company/guy...

I just remembered hearing somewhere that mike has switched to a new kind of rubber surround on the newer rl-p's so this would not happen. I guess the glue sticks beter to the new surround or something like that.

no he said nothing about glue sticking better to the new surround....

he went with a new surround to tweak the t/s param's a little, and to gain a couple more mm's xmax:D

but have you tried getting ahold of him yet? i'm sure he will do anything in his power to make it right! mike's one hel! of a guy:thumbsup:

Indeed, our original surrounds were made of santoprene and did exhibit some glue issues which is why we have since switched to NBR rubber surrounds.

Terribly sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner IshbOO, as stated in my reply to your email - I'll definitely send you out a new RL-p12 D4 asap, but I have none sitting around in stock currently so it will have to be on or around April 1st when my fresh drivers get off the line and are ready to roll out. Since you want to show off your drivers on the 30th, you may as well just use them until then and send the defective one back to me afterwards. It doesn't matter to me if the surround comes off anymore, as the entire driver will have to be ripped apart and rebuilt anyway.

Many apologies, I'll do what I can to make sure you get your replacement as quickly as possible.

Wish I could get it to you right away but I just don't have any to ship at the moment //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Actually the surrounds were not what offer the slightly increased movement, but rather the smaller spider and spacer ring that we introduced on our new RL-p15 models.

I mentioned finding a new surround for our new RL-i8's that will offer a bit more excursion, but those are only being used on the new RL-i8's and will not affect the rest of our lineup.
