So i was passing time at madisound and found these things called supertweeters, i know cdt has them and madisound has these

http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=9666061.1819&pid=342

so do these really help your system or are they just a marketing hype? because i know we can't hear above 20khz so what's the point in higher frequencies? Is it similar to the fact that eventhough you can't hear below 20 hz you can still feel it? If it really helped, i wouldn't mind paying some $ for them. Just wanting some opinions

thanks

It's also physically impossible for a standard format CD to contain a frequency higher than ~22khz.

CDT's are marketing hype. CDT has a lot of products that are nothing more than marketing hype. One of the reasons I really don't care for CDT.... "OMG, your system is not complete unless you have 10 tweeters for each listening position !!"

Those supertweeters on madisound are designed for home/pro audio systems that need additional high frequency reinforcement. Not something most any car audio system will ever need.

cool, thanks for the input, because it really didn't make sense to add anything that only play abover 20 khz...

Those supertweeters don't "only" play over 20khz. But they do have very limited low frequency extension.....typically only down to about 5khz or so. So, they would realistically cover the range from ~5khz or 7khz up to 20khz.

Supertweets are often used to reinforce the upper end of a 6.5" or 8" full range driver that may get raggedy on the top end. Lowther and Fostex both take advantage of this, and the BK-16 kit that Madisound offers is a good example.

Not to mention a good vinyl playback system will have FR reaching up to 40KHz or so...sure, you can't hear it, but that means it'll still be flat at 20K //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
