RUN ur car NOT ur mouth !
OK so I'm getting ready to upgrade my sub in my daily driver (96' GP SE Sedan) (See sig - Pic of my current sub / enclosure) I've been planning all along to go with the new 12" Sundown Z.v4 D2 since I 1st heard about them before they were released, but I have always liked Tantric subs, and I'm torn between the Sundown Z.v4 - 12" D2 and the Tantric HDD - 12" D2. I'm ONLY looking to run ONE SUB, and I've got 2500 rms on tap @ 1 ohm... This is NOT going to be a competition vehicle, but I drive a LOT and hav e very agressive listening habbits with a wide variety of different types of music, but mostly hip hop and rock... I want to get as loud as I can for a single 12" / 3" VC sub on 2500 rms RELIABLY, and sound GOOD doing it... The Tantric is cheaper than the Sundown so that's already a big plus in my book, but I know that the Tantric is going to laugh @ 2500 rms as well... I am considering upgrading to a BC3500 in the near future though if need be, so power won't be an issue either way... I'm just looking for your thoughts and input between the 2 for what I'm looking to do, Thanks in advance //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

Anyone else have any input or opinions? Please give reasoning for either //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

You can't go wrong with either. T-Fade posted some test results of a Zv4 vs a HD (not a HDD) that you may find interesting.
Yeah I know they are both definitely worthy subs... Yes I saw T-Fade's thread on his comparison and I was pretty impressed at how the HD held it's ground... That got me thinking... The HDD is a far superior sub to the HD... I don't know what to do now... Choices, choices... so many **** choices lolz!

Personally, I'd take the HDD. The HD gave the Zv4 a run for it's money and is a whole notch down from the HDD. It's also price-friendly and will take any more power you want to throw it very nicely.

I know and that really got me thinking that the HDD would put the Z to shame in every way... I was dead set on the Z.v4 before I saw that...

The only problem is that the box was designed by bassbox pro. It was pretty obvious that a HD in a large box would outperform a Zv4 in a tiny box. It's not really fair to compare the two without a ton of boxes being built to find the "optimum" box for each.

Yeah I hear you there - Very good point //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I was just thinking that there should be no comparison what so ever between those 2 subs no matter how you tested them, I was stuck on thinking the Z would just destroy a lower grade sub like the HD as they aren't really even in the same ballpark, than it just got me 2nd guessing my initial choice... lolz I think too **** much //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif

This. Also I think we are talking for granted that the HDD is that much better than the HD. Once you get so high up on the parts scale pricing goes up quite a bit for not a huge jump in performance fairly frequently. I'm sure the HDD would do better on 5k as it wouldnt' fall apart like an HD would, but on daily applications with moderately high power (2kish) the difference isnt' going to be worlds apart.

Also I've never been a huge fan of TL testing like that. No offense as I know it's common in car audio to "win" compeititons, but your ears don't hear like that. You don't just hear just 30hz or just the peak of a song, nor do your ears ignore distortion. The z3 fwiw, measured pretty well on data-bass.com. I think Jacob made some good improvements to the z4.

Anyway, real point of the post is I don't think in the long run on music your going to get a heck of a lot of audible difference either way you go, rep whichever brand you prefer in this case, IMHO. If price is a fairly large factor, I might lean just towards the HD due to the price difference.

Both great choices.

Having done the exact comparison you're asking about... I can tell you that you can't go wrong with either.

Also... note that the HDD is a much better small box sub than the HD. I dropped the HDD into the Z's box for their comparison. One bystander commented... "A single 10" should not be able to do that."

Thank you all for input and replies, I've decided to got with the Tantric HDD D2 with a carbon cap, In the midst of an ugly divorce right now, so I may have to put this off even further now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/*******.gif.a649d21efc0d1fd4890a6428166586c1.gif
