Sundown saz3000 or crunch gp3000d pro

sundown.

and to the op, why even start this thread? you seem dead set on the crunch. did you start this just to try and bash sundown? why not take the advice given, which seems to be the sundown, or just end it and get the crunch?

yeah sure:rolleyes:
Hey linkin, if you are so against Sundown don't start a thread about SUNDOWN vs crunch and then get pissed at people that recommend the better amp. Sorry, we are all here to help YOU. Sorry, we are recommending the BETTER amp. Sorry, the better amp isn't the cheaper one. Get over it. You pay more for better shi t.

I concur. I forgot he was even the OP he was so against Sundown...holy shi t. Ha, what was he expecting.

I don't want to get into the war here, but i've seen many sources show that the crunch amps do make rated power and then some. I do not doubt that the sundown it the better choice, as well it better be for nearly twice the money but I don't think its fair to say the crunch doesn't make rated power.

Then again I never benchtested either myself so I couldn't tell you what kind of power either amp puts out.

I did a direct swap out of 3000 watt maxxsonics amps for the saz 3000d, the saz's stayed in the truck because they were over a db louder.
Food for thought
thats pretty surprising, considering my mm4000 was only .2 db quieter than 2 saz3k and over 2 db's louder than 1 saz3k

i've used both amps(gp3k & saz3k), the saz3k has a little more power in it, but heat's up much faster(especially being black in the sun) and didnt' seem as efficient. As far as reliablility, mount your amp properly and your problems will be minimal with either amps(secure amp racks, not lying ontop of your box)

I know at 17.5v the with a gp3000d per tsns w/ quad stiff spiders they don't want any more power... in a daily application.

They make rated power @ 14.4v not at 12v. Even in LiveWire's test @ 0.5ohm nominal and 12v the Crunch only made 2800watts. I've personally tested the saz-3000d @ 0.5ohm nominal & 12.9v rest dropping to 11.8v and it made just over 4,000watts.

The MM4000.1 is a larger amp than the SAZ-3000D

I have never seen a SAZ-3000D get hot, ever. You must have hooked it up wrong. I have seen quite a few of them too, considering I have been working on them since they came out, they don't get hot unless something was wrong with them, even then it's rare for them to get hot. WTF does the Sun have to do with it? LOL, they are mounted in a trunk normally, out of the sunlight....

SAZ-3000D > GP3000DPro

Mounting your amp on a rack is a good idea. However, even then the FETs are likely to break the legs off from vibration in the GP3000D Pro. Good luck with yours. You can mount my refurb SAZ-3000D's to a speaker box if you want, go ahead I dare you to try to vibrate on of those apart. I haven't ever seen one of my refurbs come back with broken legs on the FETs. Go ahead, mount it to the box and try it, we will warranty it if you break it...

i got the hook up and they arent that cheap for a brand new one
Guess you don't have much of a hookup at all.. I can get them for less then 800 (not going to put exact price in case there's some sort of minimum price point Jacob allows) with 2 year warranty from an authorized dealer. It's quite a drive up there to get it, but still.

I can tell you from first hand experience, I have OWNED AND RAN BOTH. My Crunch blew up on me...
In short, I say get the sundown.

Here's the explanation.

I have a 15" RE MT as you can see in my sig, I was running a Crunch GP3000D-Pro for about 2 months or so, all was well and I thought it was amazing. After about 2-3 months, the Crunch blew on me. Figured maybe it was just a blown fet, so I changed out the fets. It blew again, this means there was something else blown. Maxxsonics has no online authorized retailers as far as I know, so if your buying online, your screwed. This may not be the case anymore, but I know it was true at one time.

After messing with the GP3k trying to revive it, I decided to put the extra money towards a real amp and pay a real price. I had the money at the time so figured might as well. I ended up going with the SAZ-3000D.

Now, with the sundown, my system is louder to the ear, and definitely to the car (windshields are flexing WAY more then with the crunch). Another benefit is I guess the power is cleaner, I'm not sure really but the sub runs MUCH cooler at full tilt then it did with the crunch. (gains set with a DMM, so don't come back at me with 'clipping' and nonsense.)

Not to mention the Sundown never gets past what I would call warm, even when I first hooked it up and went 2 hours on and off at full tilt, it was still just a bit over the ambient temperature. (I live in FL, I'm saying the amp's heatsink was no more then 110 degrees.) With the Crunch it would get hot enough I couldn't keep my hand on it for more then a couple seconds.

On another note, Sundown TRUMPS maxxsonics in terms of customer service. I tried going through Maxxsonics customer service, and just kept get relayed to people who couldn't help me. It reminds me of Dell tech support. Now with Jacob, I've talked to him a few times and whatnot (asked him questions via PM, email, etc) and he has always gotten back to me within 5 minutes, most of the time less then 1. And I didn't even buy anything directly from the man! He's just a good guy who loves to help and likes seeing his product being used and appreciated. (I bought my amp from Chris at dB-r.com, who also has some of the BEST customer service I've ever seen in terms of sales and warranty. Something crazy was wrong in the amp, it blew after about 10 minutes of play, he told me to send it in, he would take care of it. No questions asked, and he covered shipping, parts, and labor.)

This guy said his SAZ-3000D is working more efficiently than his GP3000D Pro did......

Definitely more efficient. Same ohm load from the subs, same box, same electrical, Crunch dropped to 12.7, Sundown dropped to 13.5. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif
