I bought this amp a week ago and I'm having trouble with it and a sub I bought (both from CL)
I had the amp wired with 4awg to the battery (about 4 feet). I just added a second line of 4awg to both but I turned the gain to half to test it.
Anyways, here is my problem:
The sub I bought starts to smell at high volumes, but there is no noticeable clipping or distorting.
The sub is an american bass VFL extreme 15" 1500w rms dual 2 ohm
Sub is wired for a 1 ohm load. (checked with DMM)
The box is 4 cubic feet, ported to 34hz.
I've had some people tell me the box is too big and meant for more than the subs RMS rating and that was called "box rise" and might be why I'm having poor results
I've also been told that I need to get a second battery and do the big 3.
The guy I bought the amp from was pushing 2 dc's with the same amp, and he even turned the gain and bass boost all the way up on the amp and there was no clipping or distorting and it was shaking the head liner off and I didn't smell anything from the subs. He also had everything stock, which is what puzzles me.
He had what I think was 1/0 wiring from the battery, about 15' I assume.
I think it might be due to the wires limitation of amps that can go though the 4awg wire, but I'm not sure.
The sub DOES Pound really hard, but the smell is what worries me.
I would rather not have to get a second battery, especially at the price they run ($250 or so)
The sub had sat in the guys garage for 5 years and it's still really stiff. Does it just need to be broken it?
