LOL.. I have often thought about building some homebrew amps with TO-3 metal case transistors just to see how crazy people would go for them based on the fact that the transistors are in a metal can rather than a plastic housing but no other differences..... Like the old Linear Power amps.

Are they the same other then being metal or plastic on the outside?

Probably, but can't be 100% without looking at the datasheets for the parts.

What is the number on those metal can transistors? I can't read it in the pic. Maybe find a bigger pic if you don't have the amp.

Which is fine, I don't know about "special" but they are in a metal can.
