Sundown SA vs SoundQue HDS

Iv been researching for a SQL system, an was wondering what could u all tell me about the SA vs HDS. I see praises on the SA's everywhere, "the most versatile" sub on the market. An i see SQ's HDC are "Bang for Buck" sub's, is the HDS a big down grade? Basically im looking spend up to $5-600 on Sub an Box. Are the AmerBass Hybrid Amp good match for either?

The HDS 300s are 1200 rms and will take more. The Sundown SA 12s will take about 1200 rms before they start to run out of steam.

Both would be really solid choices given whatever amp you decide.

The American Bass VFL Hybrid amps are also really solid, provided you can keep your voltage up. They tend to start lacking output below about 13.6v I have seen.

Two SA 12s on a VFL Hybrid 2680.1 would work. Two HDS 312s would work on the VFL Hybrid 4480.1

I would even throw the two SAs on the 4480.1 because after impedance/box rise, you'll probably never see that full 2200 rms anyways musically.

Either subs would work, just the HDS have potential for more power.

Both should sound nice given that they are made in optimal boxes for the power you choose

I did some more looking around an found a HDC12 for $250, u think tht wud pair nice with 1 Hyb 2680? The HDC is rated at 1500rms and the VFL rates 1300@ 1ohm. As u say'd should i feed it more? Im going with the HDC12 over the SA12, is it worth the extra 50 for the HDC? Foget the HDS....

yep the HDC would "work" on 1300 rms but it wouldn't necessarily "do work" if you understand lol.

I would throw a VFL 4480 on the HDC

if you're looking for a single sub setup, then both the HDS312 and SA12 would work on that 2680

What size and how many subs are you looking to buy? How much room do you have?
Well I currently have an S15L5 n a 4cu box, dnt laf. Anyway i can do WAY more with tht space. Im torn, but it seems lik I'll go with the HDS312 on a VFL150.1? Si or Nah

Why go from a 15" to a 12"? At least maintain a 15" or get a couple of 12"s if you're trying to gain output. I would go with a pair of HDC3s or a single 15" HDC3, whichever your budget allows for.

For 1 the 15 is a Kicker, 2 it needs to much space just to "satisfy". I think i cud get wat i want out if the HDS's vs HDC's for almost half the price, also the HDS's would leave room for a much need'd power upgrade. Currently all stock....

if I understand correctly, he's getting two 12s, or that's what I was suggesting lol
What he wrote was "I'll go with the HDS312 on a VFL150.1?" I wasn't sure if that meant 1 or 2, ha.

I'll adjust my statement. Grab a pair of HDS312"s or a HDC3 15" and whatever quality 2-2.5k amp you can afford. You'll be rock'n for sure.

On tht note, the 1 HDC315 is 1500rms $270ship an the 2 HDS312 are 2400rms $280ship. By the numbers wouldnt the HDS's win this round? Or is the HDC that much better of a sub?

It's all in the box and setup. On paper two 12"s, because of the cone advantage, should be louder. However, that isn't always the case.

I'm a fan of single sub setups, but that's just a preference. Get whatever appeals to you more.

Is there an advantage to either set up? An is there anywhere I cud get a box made, given my trunk space? My local shops are clueless....
