Sundown SA-8 box ?

Yea 1.00 cube is big for a single SA-8 unless your putting it on really low power. I currently have my 2 in 1.85 cubes with 2 4" aero ports. They have been doing good for over a year now but I just built my new box 1.2 cube for both my SA-8s to see if I like it any better. Im stuck with port issues too. I like Aero ports and a 4" port will have to be too long. So a 3" would be perfect length but im thinking 1 little 3" port is too small.

1 4" aero would be 23" long

1 3" aero would be 12" long

If I wanted to run 2 3" aeros its says 27" long. Does that mean EACH port needs to be that long or 13.5" each port to total 27" of port? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Im having a brain fart and cant remember...

Last time I built an aero port box was over a year ago. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

popwar... if you have questions start your own thread, dont jack one.

that said they both need to be 27'' long.

im actually moving away from aeros for a daily setups. often times the length becomes a issue, and slots easier especially for small boxes like the ones for those 8s

"Space makes bass." Big boxes are awesome for music. I think 1 cube for a single SA8 is a great number. It's true that it will diminish power handling some, but Sundown probably recommends a smaller box because people put double or triple rated power to them and wonder why they fail. This is also why Jacob rates his subs so conservatively. If you watch Jacob's 152db with a single SA8 vid, you can see that his box is at least a cube.

Anyone can look at the specs for an SA8 and see that .6 is the "recommended" airspace. Don't just regurgitate what you see everyone else say. You guys didn't even ask him what kind of power he had planned for it.

As far as the aero question, a 3" will be fine for a single SA8. Is more port preferable? Sure. But aeros aren't great for smaller boxes because the lengths get unfavorable. If you go with similar port area with a slot, the lengths will be comparable, but you can make it "L" shaped or whatever you need to do. I'd rather see you do a little more port and go with a slot unless you are set on using an aero, but a 3" is ~ 7 sq in of port and that'll be fine for a daily.

And lastly, the flares on aeros are around 5" in legth by themselves. So, if you need 16.3", cut the tube portion to 11.3". Or just leave it full length (which is 17", iirc). That'll put you between 32-33hz and you won't have to cut your tube. The only problem here is... is any dimension of your box going to be 20"? Or can you make some of the port external? It might get a little hairy fitting a 17" straight port into 1 cube.

all of the sundown subs like boxes on the smaller side. and jacob has said that himself. not just because of people over powering but for the simple fact of that is how the suspension on them is setup. and the sa-8s dont truly start to shine untill you throw around 600 watts to them.

we have ran 4 sa-8 setups now and played around with close to 20 of them. personally with a box any larger than .75 ive noticed the response of the sub looses some of its punch and quickness.

and yes in theory a 3'' aero would be "fine for daily" but why hold a piece of equipment back from getting the best possible results. if i was going to use an aero on an sa-8 it would be a 4'', but thats next to impossible due to the small box size, unless running external.

op. if you need a slot port box design for a single sa-8 that will get the most out of it. shoot me a pm with your email. i already have one done. or i can make you one with different external dims to suit your needs better.

I've played with a few SA8 boxes myself. I've had better results with boxes on the bigger side. Actually, my loudest box was a pair in 2 cubes. I've tried them in as small as .25 net for a pair. Lol (fail btw).

It's cool that you've tried several boxes with them and that you shared that info. All too often people are just saying what they see everyone else saying.

Of course, most of my experience is from a pure SPL standpoint, although I have had them in a few daily boxes.

Worst box. Lmao.

Best setup.

nice. we have done a few spl setups with them but most have been pure daily boxes. the design im sending to him is actually the same one that is in my gf's car with a single sa-8 soon to be on a aq750.1. and i really like the sound of the box in her car GMC terrain actually which is very similar to that of the op.

I've got mine in .73 tuned to 37hz with about 12'^2 of port, I know it's more than 12 less than 13 can't quite remember, and it sounds awesome and takes all the power from the sae-1000d @ 2ohms
