These are primarily SQ sub-woofers - true sub-woofers with response into the 30s.
They can get pretty loud in the right setup too, though. As posted earlier, my Dad has two of these ported in a regular cab Chevy and it does 131 dB windows up and 137 dB windows down legal @ the windshield (yes, there really is a 6dB difference windows down).
You really do not need over 200-watts for these drivers - but, depending on box size and tuning you can get away with more power if you are mindful of mechanical limits. They were optimized for 200-watts mechanically (softer spider to lower Fs) - thermally, the coil is quite huge for an 8" woofer and they have great cooling.
As far as top-end response, they will do well up to about 200 Hz - after that I don't suggest using them any higher.
