Sundown Amp problem

Okay so I finally hooked up my sundown sax1200d just to test it and see if it works. my sub is wired at 4ohms and I wired everything to the amp but it takes over half gain to just make my sub move at all. Sundown Z v.2 sub and yes i know it only puts out 360 watts at 4ohms but it still should be enough to at least sound decent. My settings on amp were: Gain over half way, Subsonic 20, LPF , Bass boost 0, Phase 0, and I did not have the bass knob plugged in. Headunit settings are: LPF and sub setting on 0, bass boost 0, sla 4, My regular EQ, and HPF . This sub would hit like no other with my kenwood 500wattrms amp at 4ohms. When i plug the sundown in, it takes over half gain just to move the sub at all.

It could be that the kenwood doesn't accept nearly as wide of a range of input voltages as the sundown, thus you don't need to turn up the gain as much. Set your gain with a digital multi meter (DMM) and see if it's still the same

Sundown Z v.2's take a lot of power to move personally 360watts on that subwoofer should not be very impressive maybe the whole 1200 would be better. Also your preout could be low on your headunit so that could require higher gain setting. Honestly there are a lot of variables for why your gain needs to be so high. Maybe it's @ 360 at half way and it just isn't loud. Sorry man you need to get more out of that amplifier maybe you need a better box get a better headunit with 4vpreout.

Okay guys, i have a logical reasoning behind the 4ohms wiring. My kenwood was hooked up to it at 4ohms so I wanted to test the sundown to make sure everything worked properly before I sold my kenwood. Yes i know 360 is not much, but this sub was run on a 250 rms rockford amp for a short period to make sure box and everything was done right and that the sub was working fine. The subwoofer hit good on the 250 and on the 500 but its very very faint even at 1/2 gain on the sundown amp. Yes, soon I will wire down to 1ohm and run the amp for full power, but right now i was simply testing it and saw that it is not doing near what it should even at 360 watts.

well, I actually eased the gain up a lil higher than half just messing around and it still hits nothing like even the 250watts rms. something is wrong.

Not only that, but You are prob not even going to get close to that 3oowatt mark, as is is at the 14.4v rating, and you may not even be at 14v when using that amp, also? Its possible those other amps are rated at the 12v range too?Something to consider.??

He's running a pretty efficient amplifier man I gaurantee he's seeing all of those watts and then some from that amplifier and you don't need 14.4v to run that amplifier and @ 4 ohm I doubt hes getting voltage drop from 400watts. What is your preout voltage on your Headunit? If it's anything lower than 4v you need to turn almost 3/4 of your gain up. Just drop it to 1 ohm and quit complaining I bet everything is fine, you're over thinking things. I ran my 18" off an MRP-450 and it ****** bawls I then ran it off a 1500.1D and it hurt bad.

Nothing to see here /end topic.

^most helpful post ever. yes my headunit has 2v preouts and i have sucky rcas. I turned it about 3/4 gain, and sub level on headunit up to 6 with lpf at 80 and it came alive. sounds like 400 watts should. Got everything out, now just waiting on my welding wire and all.
