upgrading to new from a pioneer avh p4300 so I would like all the bells and whistles its going into a 2009 chevy Silverado.

Rest of my system consists of focal seperates powered by a gladden 240.2 and 4 sa8v2's powered by a jl audio 1200/1 v3.

im hoping to get something I can keep for at least 3-4 year and sound great I like being able to adjust the crossovers and the eq on the pioneer a lot.

suggest away please and thanks in advance.

I like the kenwood excelon units myself High Voltage Outputs, 2 year warranty and easy to use interface
I auditioned a used kenwood dnx 8120 and it has been a nightmare trying to tweak the eq and the crossovers requires a phd half the time I cant even figure out how to get back to the screen I was at. I know that is an older unit but I am still a little apprehensive to go kenwood.

any thoughts on clarion? specifically the nx603?
I've had that since the release back in September of '13. The main reason to look at this unit is Smart Access, which uses your smartphone data connection to let you view and control certain apps on the head unit. Compatibility with Smart Access depends on your smartphone, and I belive it would be a much better experience with iPhone than my Android. It does not support iPhone 5. The upcoming NX604 will rectify that. With a projected release time of late Q2, you would be better off waiting for NX604 than picking up NX603.

Both units will exceed your $500 budget a good amount, especially if you go to an authorized dealer.

Do you need navigation?

no I don't use the nav and the backup camera either. I am researching now and leaning heavily toward the pioneer avh-x5600.

Clarion VX404 would be a great choice for non-nav. It has a lot of features plus it has the fastest CPU in the Clarion line-up for very quick menus.
