Well I thought I would help my buddy out by putting a little bump in his trunk. I installed a couple lightning audio 8's and a sony xplod amp for him. Now after when we tried everything out the subs work fine but the rest of the speakers do not make any sound at all. The only time they make any noise at all is when you crank the volume almost all the way. Then the sound cuts in and out and is very distorted. He has a pioneer deh-1700 that was already installed before I touched anything. I double checked all fuses and connections. Everything appears fine. Could it be his headunit? Please help cuz I am out of ideas.

I checked to see if there are any subwoofer or amplifier sttings on the headunit and there are none. There are only one set of preouts and the amp is a sony 500w 4 channel and all of this is in a monte carlo. I have the subs hooked up to the two rear channel outputs on the amp. I didnt touch any of the connections behind the headunit when i first installed the amp besides adding the rcas and the remote wire. I played with the gain and it made no difference on the speaker output. I also disconnected the rcas and the remote wire with no avail. The only time any sound comes out of the speakers is when the volume on the headunit is very high and even then it cuts in and out and is very distorted. But on the other hand the subs work fine. Im stumped. Did the headunit go bad somehow?

Well I put my headunit in his car and the same thing happened. Subwoofers play but cabin speakers are dead. It has to be the speaker wires correct? I really dont understand how this happened. Please help me get this fixed asap

My first thought was that the Pioneer's sound drivers were dead but if you tried your head unit, maybe it's the wiring harness it's self, did you make sure all the wires on the harness are in the right spot when you spliced them?

When I first ran the wires for his amp I never touched any of the connections besides adding the remote and the rcas because the headunit was installed before i touched the car. The speakers worked before I installed anything. It has to be the wiring harness but I cant see anything wrong with it. The wires are all spliced correctly and I have installed two diferent headunits four times so im sure it was hooked up right. I might just end up having to run new speaker wire whaich would be a PITA. Any more suggestions?

You could try running new speaker wires, but to me it sounds like the harness, I had the same problem with my stereo when I installed my alpine from a sony, I had the ground wire mixed up with another wire I don't remember which one though,

My guess would be that the 2 channels of the Amp going bad. Do you put everything in the same place each time? Meaning for the interior do you put the wires on the same 2 channels each time? Have you switched the subs to channels 1&2.? I had a problem of getting no sound from 2 of my channels. it turned out to be the amp had 2 bad channels.

The thing is the cabin speakers are all running off of the headunit. The only things that running off the amp are the subs and the are working fine. The cabin speakers do not work at all even after swapping headunits with one that I know works. So i know its gotta be the speaker wires but I dont know how I could have messed those up. I have checked them all except for the parts that are behind the dash. I really gotta find the problem here.
