Subwoofer

Hi guys I just recently joined the forums and got into the whole car audio hobby a while ago. I was always into car audio and have just a small little system. I use to have 1 12" Type R the old ones with some Type R components. I don't have that car or stuff anymore but I am planning to hook up a pretty big system in my new car. I currently drive a 2013 Honda Accord Coupe V6.

I am want to run 2 12" and run no more than 3500RMS for total system. My idle would be about 1000-12000RMS per sub. What I am wanting out of this system is I want it to be very loud but still have quality. I know some woofer that are pure SPL but don't sound amazing at higher volumes. I guess I can say I am waning a SQL kind of setup. For my components I will be running the JL Audio C5 3 way set up (6.5" , 4", and tweeter) and a 2 way set up for the rear speakers. I will be running it off the JL Audio HD600/4. I needed some advise and opinions on which of the following subwoofers below I should get on achieving what I want. Once I get everything I plan on doing the big 3, change front batter to a XS power and run a smaller one in the back and also run the biggest Mechman alternator I can ( probably a 240 or 270).

2 12" JL Audio W7

2 12" Digital Designs 3512

2 12" Sundown SA12

2 12" Sundown Z v.3

2 12" DC Audio Lv3

2 12" DC Audio Lv4

2 12" FI Q

2 12" FI BL

2 12" FI SSD

how do you like the dub 7 and the DD? do you want to hit lows like a monster? or do you want it to hit a wide frequency range good for all music? The box would be a deciding factor on how the subs actually sound but each sub has a different sound signature itself.

I liked both the w7 and the dd 3512. I listen to 2 12" w7 on a focal fps 3000 in a Porsche cayenne. The dd 3512 was on a dd m3b I believe. I really couldnt tell any difference that why I need help from you guys.

I forgot to mention what kind of music I listen to. I listen to rap hip hop and rnb. I know it will depend on the box but I want something that will hit hard when I play my rap songs. I want a ported box also so I am probably guessing a low tuned box? What do you think box wise is best for me?

if space is a concern, go with the DC level 4s, if not, then i'd look into a pair of incriminator audio Death penalties or SSA Xcon
So you would choose the dc out if my list. Any particular reason? What amp should I match up with it? I will check out the other subs you mentioned. Would you happen to know if I can fit a proper box in my car?

DC subs like smaller enclosures so you can have more space it thats a concern for you.

the SSA Xcon 12" requires 2.5 - 2.75 cu.ft per sub and thats not counting subwoofer displacement, wood and port space. so a box for two of these would take up pretty much almost all of your trunk.

I am not worried about losing my whole trunk. I just want a setup that will hit really hard to the type of music I listen to. So what amp would you use to match the dc with. To be honest I really don't want to run 1500rms per woofer. I will only run that much power if that is the best option and it will hit the hardest

pretty sure the mojos are a much better choice than the mtx, but in the end its your choice on what you buy. either the mojo, IA, or Xcon will be more than loud enough for a daily driver. I'd pair them with either an SAZ 3500, soundqubed 3500, crescendo bc 3500 or an american bass vfl 200.1

Yeah MTX doesnt make them anymore so the only way to get the MTX 9500 is used. Yeah right now I am really considering the 2 12" Mojo 5 running off the Hifonics BRX2400.1 or BE2500.1. The only two concerns I have with these "underground" brands (DC, FI, Sundown) is that there's no one in my area where I can get a demo and decide which one I like best. Also since I have never seen them I don't know the quality of the woofer and if something happens what I can do with it. Also are these Mojo 5 considered SQL?

I was looking at the specs of the Mojo5 and the sensitivity is only 82db while the other woofers on my list are much higher about 85db+. How much of a difference will it make? I will give you a example and if you could use that example to explain it to me I would understand it better. I will use the W7 and Mojo5. Also how much does magnet and voice coil size play a factor?

JL Audio sensitivity is 86.7bd

2 12" running off 2 JL 1000/1v2

Mojo 5 sensitivity 82db

2 12" running off Hifonics BRX2400.1

What will be the difference here? the W7 has higher sensitivity but less power and the Mojo 5 has less sensitivity but more power. So how do I figure which will hit harder?

To know is better is through experience and knowing the actual motor structure and voice coils inside the sub, basic spec sheets like sensitivity doesnt tell much. but the mojos will definitely hit harder than dub 7s. W7s leans towards SQ more than SPL/SQL. These underground brands arent really underground anymore, skar and sundown's almost mainstream already. The build quality very well done on most of these underground subs because a lot of them are made here in the US right when you order it, not mass produced in china. All the DB drag competitions i've been through, The loudest sub setups on music were digital designs, american bass and incriminator audios poor w7 guy didnt even get top 10 on the rankings but he did better in the SQ comp.
