i know its a no no to turn bass boost controls up on the amplifier and headunit and that it leads to damaging or clipping. My question is adjusting the subwoofer voume control on your headd unitt up on your head unit a a bad thing to do. i have always noticed the subwoofer volume control on my head unit but never bothered with it because i thought it was like using another bass boost type of feature and didnt want to distort anything. Well now i am going to formally ask... is it ok to turn the subwoofer volume control on your head unit up? If so would you alo use this control when setting your gain?

well when you up the volumn control on the headunit you are sending a stronger singnal so what you need to do is set the headunit all the way up and then set the amp up to where there is no clipping. so you can always go down in listening but never go up so it dosent clip

Tune your system so it sounds right when it's set at zero at normal volumes. Then you can make MINOR changes to taste, for a song or adjusting for volume. It's normal to turn it up a little when listening at low volumes, then back it down to zero at normal volume, and reduce it a little for louder volume settings. This is called the "Loudness Curve". MINOR, like +/- 1, 2 or 3. It should be at zero most of the time.

on my HU the sub out setting is at 8 out of 10.

gains are set correctly.

Now if I turn the sub out down, obviously the voltage coming out of the amp will drop so there will be less output. With less output from the HU, you have to turn the gain up even more to set the gains correctly.

mines all the way up and my gains are set accordingly. way better for daily music i found out.
So when you're listening at low volumes and you'd like to turn up the sub... you can't because you're already maxed out and probably clipping the HU. Maybe you need knobs that go to eleven;
