Subwoofer Stretch?

find the t/S parameters on your sub...the xmax marks its max excursion
For a competent driver, Xmax is linear travel of the coil, but the woofer's suspension can go farther. If I was designing something for a downfiring app or anywhere where surround clearance was important, I'd look at Xmech, which is the maximum mechanical travel the woofer can sustain, before something fails.

I'd say it's easier to send a driver into overexcursion by not knowing what you're doing, versus actually keeping it within the recommended //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But yes...sending it beyond linear limits for an extended time is not very good.

Soz if im a lil uneducated when it comes to the matter but anyway

they are 2 pioneer TSW-305C subwoofers in SEPERATE boxes

Now i do know that you shouldnt use bass boost or any other crap like that. My gain on my amp is about a quater of the way and everything (bass, low, subwoofer etc) on my HU is set to the middle = 0 not -6 or anything that centre.

Where do i find this Xmax? i bought the subs a while ago and dont have the manuals for them anymore.

The rubber (ring i guess) around the subs push out about 1-2 cm. any further than that and i think im going to break them. They do seems to get to a certain point where if i do put the volume up the vibrate more (rubber pushes out ridiculously) and the bass isnt hitting any harder

My concern is they used to seem to punch alot harder, do subs get old and loose strength or just blow up?or could it possibly be the box having gone a lil loose after a while?

Any recommendations?
