Subwoofer Rattling Sound... PLEASE READ

Okay about a month ago i put a 10" kicker cvr subwoofer wired at 2 ohms to a kicker zx300.1 amplifier in my truck. I initially had the gain on 11/11 with bass boost off... stupid i know. Anyways its been making a rattling sound coming from the subwoofer.... not distortion... rattling and its annoying the shit out of me. It only happens at 50% volume and happens at all gain levels (50% volume at 6/11... about 75% volume with gain at 4/11). I do not remember if it started rattling when i had the gain at 11/11 or when i turned it down (its at either 6 or 7 right now).

EDIT: I just went outside to push the center of the cone in to see if it comes back and theres an air hissing sound when i push it in (this is a sealed box). It moved forward, but took a few seconds to do so. I also noticed that where the 8 screws screw into the box, some of the plastic on the inside of the screw holes is broken. Think its just a airleak? Didnt know an airleak could cause a loud rattling....

you sure? Cause ive never smelt burning VC and its not distorted. It does only happen at high volumes though. O well. Ive got another sitting in my room, thanks to crutchfield's buy one get one free.

You probably have a blown spider, and some excursion breakdown.

If it sounds like something is knocking up against the motor of the sub, then it's more than likely a spider issue.

first fix the leaking box. whats probably happening though is either the spider is wore out or damaged letting the voice coil rattle during its stroke. My IDQ did this and it was from just plain ol wore outidness! lol not a word. but i got precision steerology you know guys! o and spacious cabinocity.

Sounds like air leak, one of my FI Q's was making a sound like that when I had it in my box, I tightened my screws and it went away.

In reply to your PM, no I am not just messing with you. You have what's called a spider inside the motor of your woofer. If it's moving around in there, then you could also be hearing that noise.

i have the same problem, but i believe mines my box...If i stand my box upwards, it goes away...If i lay the box flat, it rattles like hell

well it was my sub... put in another 10" cvr and noise is gone

if the spider is wore out then that would make sense, when you set the sub in the box its laying on its side so there is more weight towards the bottom of the sub.
