What could be the potential cause of rattle in a brand new subwoofer placed in a sealed box?

air leaks?

wire hitting sub?

defect?

???

im just shootn in the dark here, but if its a new sub, and the box is supposed to be sealed, when you push in on the cone slightly is there a delay before it returns to its center position? Otherwise maybe you're bottoming the sub out? I had a Crystal sub do that when it was in a sealed box (that had a bad leak)...I fixed the leak and the noise cured the suspension bottoming out. well, we ran the sub through a home entertainment sytem earlier. I dont know how many watts that system put out but Im guessing it was well below the rms my amp can dish out to each sub.

btw, when I was researching this problem one of the other reasons folks said a sub would do this was tinsel lead slap.

those lil braided wires going from the solder terminals (or spring terminals) on basket to the cone

might wanna check the dust cap too. lots of times they are the cause of problems lik that.

the dust cap is the cover in the center of the cone. its usually glued down - sometimes there isnt enough glue on them and they are loose - and they make a knocking sound when they are playing.

i am having a rattle problem also, I have a very poorly made box, so im guessing a rattle can come from an air leak? but it only happens when i turn it up 2 high so im confused

Check the tincel leads. I had a CVR start to rattle and the cause was a broken tincel lead

yes... seal it up... it will sound 10000x better if it was leaking
