Subwoofer Problem

I only have one MTX Thunder6000 15" 8 Ohm subwoofer and I tried hooking it up to my home stereo but when i give the subwoofer more power it tends to make a cracking, popping noise. One person told me that it was that the subwoofer was getting too much raw current, is there any way to remedy this? Also, it is completely new, it has only been used a little bit. And it is made for car applications, but i figured since it was 8 ohms it would be fine in my house, but it hasnt worked the best.

I'm assuming that you have it in a sealed enclosure. Put it in a ported one. The cracking sound that you hear is the former hitting the backplate. Not really good for the long-term survival of the sub.

Oh boy!!!.....

Looks like you need to spend some time in hear learning the ropes. Without going into science 204, you need an enclosure to limit the travel of the speaker(so you won't blow it), and for the acoustical "thump". If you play it without an enclosure you are going to blow it. It may be blown already.

ok, well, i did have a box for it, but the box was crap and it rattled. Therefore, I took the sub out of that box and tested it without one. That is when i noticed the cracking and popping noises from it. The sub shouldn't be blown, and im about 99.9% sure that it isn't. I was only putting about 150 watts through it at most, and it can handle 300 watts RMS. I just didn't think the sub should be popping, even without a box.
