subwoofer problem/ weird sound help

I have a sundown audio sa10 running at 2 ohms to hiphonics 1500.

When i turn the gain up over halfway i start getting this brrrrrrrrr sound, kindof like listening to someone drill metal from a distance. The output of the sub seems to be the same (same amt of air moved, loudness the same, everything still shakes pretty good ) just with the accompanied sound which gets rather loud and annoying.

Is the sub on its way out or is it something that will be fixed?

Its called bottoming out, back it off or use a smaller box.

I used to be able to play it with the gain set higher and never had the sound, now I have it about halfway. And of course it's not as loud now, did it wear over time?
