Subwoofer placement in a sedan?

I have 2 12'' kicker subs in a conjoined box, only about 13'' tall.It can't fit under the back seat. The only place I can think of is in the trunk.

But it would be sealed in the trunk... The trunk is a separate cabbin, does that make sense?

Would that muffle my subs? Any ideas?
put your box in like this and take out the rear dash speakers, that will let the bass vent into your cabin

I just recently started measuring transfer functions and response variations due to positioning differences. If you can do it, having the woofer at the back, firing at the back of the vehicle will always give you the smoothest upper bass. This decreases the time difference between direct wave off the woofer and the reflected wave off the back of the vehicle. Here are some measurements from my Audi S4.
