hey i just installed my sub into the back of a dodge neon, the sub is large and the box barley fits.

The sub is about 3 inches away from the motor of the 2 6x9 speakers, they arent any special speakers just what was in the car. would building a small box around the speakers help the distortion?

Nice sub choice, I bet its loud in that little car.

Building a small box for the 6x9's will hurt their performance. They are designed to run infinite baffle (like having no box, because they use the trunk space for back waves) so placing them in small sealed boxes will kill their cone excursion/bass output. At that point they will be all but worthless to your system. Removing the rear deck speakers also often times helps bass enter the passenger compartment from the trunk, and you'll probably experience a noticeable increase in output from your sub.

And then yes, once you remove the 6x9's, beef up the front stage. Im guessing the front state is pretty weak stock, and relies heavily on the 6x9's for bass (midbass), so the front stage speakers will need to be replaced with a solid comp set pushed by an external amplifier.

I agree with this. Make sure to deaden your doors and seal up the big holes in them too . Also nice sub choice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Me Gusta

yea its a nice sub i had it in an expedition before which was a little bit easier but gas was killen me.

i need more power to it could use a 2000 watt amp for the sub.

Do you guys have suggestions for comps and tweets? im thinkn re xxx components my buddy has em and they sound great.

Open screw holes sound like a little muffler, loose box panels sound like a massager on a wooden table.
