Subwoofer in a 69 camaro

What is the easiest way to add a sub to a 69 camaro that is still gonna sound half way decent? Right now i just have a deck and some 6x9's in the rear back window. Am i right in thinking i cannot just cut a hole and add a sub to that same place without and enclosure behind it?

What about a 2x10 or 2x12 box just sitting in the truck does that work or does that sound muffled?

Dont hate on me, i just want to add some better sound but i just paid 30k for the car and ive been banned from spending too much money on it for a while //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

The bad news is that they used a lot of steel in those old cars and generally trunks lose a lot of output through the seats, padding, and steel. I'm sure you won't want to cut anything if you paid that kind of money for a classic car so IMO you should try to get something loud enough to get enough sound through the seats.

You'll be limited to 1000/1200W on a stock charging system (be certain you have a good battery). I'd consider a high quality single 12 or even 15" woofer in a custom box. A 12" woofer will eat up about 3 to 4.5 cubic feed gross in a box, a 15 will take up 5-7 cube to do it right. I'm a big proponent of fewer high quality subs over more low tier subs.

You will need to invest in a decent wiring kit and be prepared to run power wire back into the trunk (which will require pulling up the trim panels, seats, and carpet and drilling through the firewall).

There's some all in one powered subwoofers out there that are OK, but you'll still need to run the power wiring and the output may be so anemic as to be not worth the effort trying to get bass out of that trunk.

Alternately if you have 6X9 holes in the rear deck you might check out the Tang Band 6X9 subwoofer on partsexpress. If you're not a huge bass-head it may be adequate for you and you can then focus on putting some good quality components up front in some custom kickpanels (which is a good location for imaging and doesn't involve cutting).

Nobody need subs in car big block 454 under the hood haha, i think 2 good 10 is better than one 12 or maybee three 10 with very good result, i have run three 10 jl w1v2 with just 800rms and sound very good in very small box!

69 is the best camaro.very hot car!!
