Subwoofer Impedance...is lower better?

Getting into car audio here, but noticed alot of subs on the market depending on if their DVC/SVC and how many you run, you can vary what impedance you want to wire them up at. My question is, lets say if you have a pair of subs that can be wired at 2 ohms@2000watts, or 4 ohms@2000watts, is there an advantage to either one, or is it a matter of choice? Will either one hit harder? Is one safer than the other?

There is no difference in the sound or anything of that nature.

You want to match up your ohm's or impedance with the amp(s) that you use. Take a look at an add for an amp and you will see that an amp will put out different wattages at different ohms. The lower the ohms the less resistance the more power your amp will put out to a certain point. Most amps cannot go lower than 2 ohms per channel. There are several brands out now that can go down to 1 ohm and still work. All of these wiring configurations are used to match up with the amp of the users choice. Take a look at how the wattage changes with ohms.
