subwoofer distorting

sup fellas,

i have a single 10w6v2 in a fiberglass enclosure. it is powered by a 600 watt kicker mono amp. at high volumes with songs that have a ton of bass the subwoofer starts to distort. at these volumes i have also noticed that my interior lights will dim when the bass hits.

i do not have a capacitor.

my question is would having more juice running to my amps in the form of a capacitor help reduce the distortion from my subwoofer by powering it properly?

thanks for any input.

How much voltage drop are you getting? It is possible the sub may be outside of its operating limits - its rated at something like 400w I think. You can also check for enclosure flex or leakage.

Installing a capacitor at this point would not be worth the money. What is the rms rating on the sub? The amp might just be giving it too much power and it can't handle it. If a speaker is driven too hard it will distort, simple as that. Turn your gains down a bit if you can't afford new equipment.

To prevent voltage drops, do the big 3. It is an electrical upgrade requiring only some 1/0 gauge wire. Do a search.
