Hey guys,

I just installed an amp/sub in a friends 87 civic si hatchback; unfortunately his sub keeps cutting in and out!? sound...nothing....sound...nothing...sound...nothing...

If we keep the volume low it doesnt cut out maybe 13/35

What might cause this? Bad ground? I grounded to the bolt that attatches his seat to the floor. I have no idea what is causing this...I pulled out his HU and checked over the RCA's and they seem to be in there tight, as well as his wires to amp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What sub and amp are we talking about here? If the sub is a multiple (2 or more) voice coil driver how is it wired? And what size cabling is supplying power and ground to the amp?

Hey Prowler, actually it is the first KAC-846 I bought from you

Sub is a Dayton Quatro 10" SVC

Knu 8Ga. 4ch install kit.

This combo worked perfectly fine in another vehicle? Which is why im questioning my installation - or perhaps the HU?

How is the Stereo/L+R/Mono switch for the set of channels being bridged to drive that sub set?

I've never used any cable larger than 8awg to power an 846 and it never gave me the 1st moment's trouble so I cannot see why it would for you ~ especially considering you've already done the same setup just in a different vehicle.

I'm flat confuzzled, mang //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

What kind of HU is being used for the source?

Well, you didn't report any problems with the setup when it was in your G/F's car so I think I can safely emiminate install error as a possibility as you obviously hooked it up correctly previously...

Bad ground on the HU maybe?? Or possibly a bad ground on the amp even though it appears to be connected well? Seatbolts in unibody cars aren't always a good ground location //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I'll check the HU ground. As for the amp ground, I grounded it in the same spot

(seat bolt) as I did in my g/f's accord. I'm going to go wire brush it some more, and check the HU gnd.

Thanks for the tips. Imma keep at it!

OK - I hooked up the speakers, and they are also cutting in and out with the subwoofer =/ This only happens when I turn the HU volume past 16 or so out of a max 35.

WTH is goin on here?
