Subwoofer cuts out of "Clips" - Please Help

I am pretty much stumped and have read and tried almost everything, I really need some help. My Subwoofer is not working correctly, it cuts out or "Clips". Not really at that high of volume, and it is rather quiet even before it cuts out.

My Setup:

2001 Mustang GT with Mach 460 package.

Head Unit: KDC-X891

Amp: KAC-X10D - Class D Mono Amp (1 Ohm Stable) - 1200 Watts Max

Subwoofer: KFC-XW1212DVC - 1200 Watts Max - (Dual 2 Ohm Voice Coils)

Bass Knob: KCA-WR10

I have it wired for Parallel and a 1 Ohm load as per the diagram that came with the sub.

More info and things I have tried:

I tried twice to wire it Series for a 4 Ohm load but the problem persists.

I have checked the ground and tried different bolts and sanded the paint off and checked connections.

The amp power wire is connected directly to the battery with a 60amp fuse under the hood.

I tried turning down the input sensitivity on the amp and with my kenwood bass knob and in the head unit.

I checked all wires for shorts/kinks of any kind and found no problems. I bought a wiring kit with 4 gauge power/ground.

I connected my sub to a friends system a couple weeks ago and the sub worked perfectly until we blew his large fuse, most likely due to the fact that we didn't re-wire my sub and his amp is not 1 ohm stable.

Also I might note that when it cuts out the light on the amp will dim or blink but will not go out permanently as if protect mode was activated.

I will also say that I installed this myself with the help of someone who knows more and that day everything worked fine and the sub hit extremely hard with no problems even at high volume. And to my knowledge nothing has changed since except the performance.

I have had this problem for a long time and even created a thread in 2008 but didn't get much response so I gave up until now. I am beginning to wonder if this is a defect/characteristic of the amp or, because it worked at one point, something may have broken, but upon inspection of the amp and the speaker, they look perfect.

If you have any other questions about my system feel free to ask. I can post pictures if that will help.

Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Convoy

based on what youve got and what youve tried, I would say to give new RCAs a try. also, running the RCAs and the power wire down the same side of the car together leading to the amp is a no-no. that can cause a bad signal. you have pretty much done everything else i would have done and the RCAs is the only thing i can come up with being your ground is secure. good luck!

Thanks, that is something else I was thinking of trying, and I did run the RCA cables on the opposite side as the power/ground.
i would really try your amp in your buddies ride and that will for sure eliminate the possibilty of it being the amp (if it works correctly in his ride that is). I say this because its free. if it works, then more then likely its an rca or ground problem.

Ok, I just got done testing another pair of RCA's, no change. I was about to take the amp off and open it up when I went out to the garage and found an old 8 or 10in sub in a ported box I used in my previous car. I grabbed some speaker wire and hooked it to the amp.....and after I turned up the sensitivity, the knob and the SW in the head unit I was able to get it to hit hard, no problems even at maximum levels. But even at maximum levels it doesn't hit nearly as hard as my 12" kenwood should if it were working properly. This makes me believe that it must be the speaker, but I don't know what could be wrong, doesn't look blown or damaged at all. I have checked it and re-wired it more than 5 times so it can't be how it is wired. With each step I continue to get more confused as to what the problem could be.

if the other sub worked fine and youve already rewired the coils a few times on your original sub and that didnt work, im gonna have to say its the sub

I would think maybe the leads on the sub are loose or have broken, try playing it really soft then start pushing the sub yourself to see if excursion causes this.
