Subwoofer Choice

Well i have been combing thru your site for about a month now and and found a great deal of information!!! Everyone here seems very knowledgeable so i am hoping you can help me settle on which speaker would be best for my needs. I am re-doing the audio system in my 01 audi S4 i have finished everything except the sub stage and i am tossed up on a driver. I have the MB Quart 6.5 componets in the front doors, MB 6.5 coaxial in the rear doors, and MB 6.5 componets in the rear deck, i am running a pioneer AVIC-920bt head unit. I have owned 8's, 10's and 12's but never a 15 inch so i am thinking i would like to try one out. I previously ran 2 JL audio 10w3 subs in the vehicle and i need more output (they were in a sealed box) i was considering doing a blow thru box thru the center armrest in the rear seat (if they are favorable). I dont mind giving up all of my trunk it is just a toy car anyways. I kinda narrowed it down to 3 different drivers the SA-15, RE *** 15 or the FiQ 15 however i do not really want to wait while Fi builds me a sub (im kinda impatient) lol. I am very picky on my music and i like to to be accurate but also get down real low! I listen to pretty much everything rap, techno, dubstep, house, hard rock and alterninitive so i need a sub that can handle all of those duties for me. I am having mobile enclosures design me a box for the vehicle and i will build it myself (built many boxes) the amp will be pushing 1000 watts rms at 1ohm to the speaker. From what i have heard in the past a 15 is going to be sloppy for my typical music taste but it seems as tho there have been alot of improvement since the old days, would it still give me a good punch? pickup double bass drum hits? be accurate? If anyone thinks another speaker would be better please let me know.

It all depends on the box. You can make a 15 sound like an 8 or an 8 sound like a 15. Very big misconception that larger drivers yeild a boomy sound instead of tight, like a sealed box.

Whats your budget?

I had 2 12 and went to 1 15 to me it's a deeper more fuller bass which to some, might be too much, but for me it works and I like it. The sa will sound amazing but I'm thinking u can only fit 1 in that trunk and if your looking for more output than 2 jl 12 you might have to drop slightly in sq to gain output it's a choice.

For output don't go with jl=sq expect the w7, I would go for the incriminator audio death row/penalty or dc audio xl or maybe an AA if you can find one

Well what i have are 2 10's so i hope i can get more output and still keep clairity

Um correct.. If he's expecting an SA to take as much power as 2 jl subs it's not gonna happen. An fi q would take more power than the SA which is why you'd lose sq for output if u went with the Q

still wrong, you arent specifiying whcih jl subs and the sa series has been proven to take >1k daily and have good sq in a low tuned box.

Doing simple math:

W3 500 x 2 =

SA 400 x 1 =

Yes the SA can take 1k in some cases and in the right enclosure and experience user. And u don't think those jl can't take that 1k and then some with that same experienced user?

Case and point fi Q will take more than an SA. Is the output worth the sq loss tho?

dude an FI Q would walk all over an SA-15 in sq while being just as loud if not louder and not taking a risk on maxing out the drivers thermal or mechanical limits......But bud i dont think you 5-channel Hifonics amp is going to cut it for a nice sub stage your looking for. That amp Is not going to provide you will 1000rms watts of CLEAN power to your sub...get you a nice mono block amp and go from there. FI Q is nice also look at SSA Dcon or XCON both very musical!

Everyone has their preferences in sq...

But yes Q will be louder and you will need a new mono to run either eapecially the Q.

From what i understand it is a mono block chassis and a four channel chassis just put into 1 case the mono is d class the 4 channel a/b

there is an xcon in the classifieds for 315 shipped.. how is this sub? is that a good price? is it bad to buy used?
