Subwoofer Break In

I bought a brand new Polk DXi 112 and the manual says for proper break in, play at moderate levels for 20-30 hours? Has anybody broke it in sooner than that? Btw, I am using the KickerDX500.1 Mono amp at 4 ohms to push it...gain is at 1/4 turn now (Noob, bear with me)

thanks

its not really a myth as once your pay a sub for a couple hours the suspension lossens up, but in the sense of you needing to keep the volume down to break it in is a myth. You can put recomended power on it right out of the box.

ps. having gain set at 1/4 does not mean you are only giving it 1/4 the power. Read up on how to set the gain

From what i have read on this site, breaking in is merely a thing manufacturers use to screw u on your warranty and break in is not needed. Feel free to play the sub with all you got lol

a new stiff sub will not cool as much nor play as low due the cone not moving as much. you will notice a difference after it is played for a while.

that said a woofer should be unrated enough thermally to handle this with no issues.

i advise all my customers when asked this, beat on them from new out the box...

My view on that is, if you are clipping the hell out of your sub the company figures you will blow it in the first couple hours, Hence they say break it in. When you say you didnt break it in thats just another excuse to void it. Then on top of that if you pay for someone to install it they figure you will pay them again after you break your sub in to retune your amp

So when you try to use the warranty lie and tell them you did in fact break them in when they ask. The only reason they say there's a break-in period is to try and screw you later on the warranty anyway. Cause you know damn well most people start beating on their subs from the get-go.
