Subwoofer advice needed

Hi!

Newbie here, please be nice

I've got a simple setup in my mk2 Skoda Octavia estate, with a Rockford Fosgate Prime R2D4-10 sub in a sealed box in the side wall of the boot. It's not too bad, but the sub has seen better days, with some nasty noises coming from the dual voice coils (I think).

I'm looking for a suitable replacement, be it another RF Prime or something else. It must be reasonably shallow and work with a sealed enclosure.

The Prime has dual voice coils at 4 ohms each and is rated 500W max. R2D4-10 - Prime 10" R2 4-Ohm DVC Subwoofer | Rockford Fosgate®

I'm driving it with a Pheonix Gold R500.1, which does 500W at 2 ohms. http://caraudio.manualsonline.com/ma...old/r5001.html

What sort of wattage and impedance sub should I be aiming for? I'm not looking to spend a fortune, so looking for a good quality budget woofer. Can anyone make any recommendations?

Cheers

You're looking for a dual 4 ohm sub.

You can wire it down to 2ohms which is what your current sub is wired to.

For suggestions, I'm not familiar with relevant UK car audio brands.

Someone else will have to chip in on this.

Hi Mayhem, thanks for your reply. To be honest, I'm not very familiar with brands available in the UK, let alone the US.

I picked this RF Prime up second hand so it may or may not have been bust when I got it, but the problem it has only recently been occurring. I'm just wondering whether I may have damaged it by running it at 2 ohms with both coils in parallel on my amp - is this likely? I'm asking in case I decide to get another R2D4-10, as they are only about £65 new.

Cheers

i just took a pioneer champ pro 3003 d4 out of my car i ran more power than u have but it would be good for u because it has 96 db rating.. it's 600rms and has dual spiders so it will take some time to break in on that power sealed but they're like $75 most places online anyway.. if u ever want it to be much louder just get ported box it's pretty loud ported even on low power.. depends how much u want to spend..
