Well put.
It is unfortunately a "phase" a lot of kids go through when they first get into car audio. Most dont know much, and just want to boom. You are also correct regarding your statement about me. I was one of those "no fear- In your face, all the time loud bass" people when I first began in car audio. Luckily, that did not last long! I remeber people turning thier heads as I drove by, looking for where the cool bass was comming from. Boy was I dead wrong about that, sure I would drive by bass cranked, and people would turn thier heads, but not to find the cool bass, but rather to get a description of the vehicle that was disturbing the peace. Time and time again, I would run into some of these people durring my daily work, and they would constantly tell me to keep it down. I never listened- at first, not until after many noise violation citations, and even having my car impounded. About the same time, I stumbled upon a little magazine known today as Car Audio and Electronics. I completely devoured the entire magazine, more times than I have fingers and was amazed that there was so much more and so much better to the car audio world than just loud. I learned that the key element to any well designed mobile audio system is that it must be enjoyable for
me to listen to. - (emphisis on the 'me' part there) From that moment on, the stereo stayed down and I continued reading and learning about car audio, trying out and failing at many different system designs in many different vehicles. After failing (crawling) for so many times, Iand just wanting to give up, I finally did succede with a quality install that was something other than just loud. Entering it into a local shops competition, I placed 4th overall in SQ and SPL classes. From then on, I knew that I could do this and recieved the necessary motivation and learning to go on to quite a few successful installs in my car, and in other peoples cars. (Begining to walk) To date, I have come from the typical- Boom Car Kid, to a car that has placed 2nd in the IASCA SQ divison in the 601+ power class. (walking!)
The moral here-
"You must first crawl, before you can walk."
I have been there, and have matured and educated myself beyond the feeble beginings; I explain things based on my own experiences and and aquired knowledge.
I still do not know everything, about car audio, and I will be the first to tell anyone this, however, If one refuses to continually research and learn, thier own systems will only be as good as thier weakest link. This doesnt have to be equipment, this can also extend to the system installer/owner.
Please, learn all that you can, apply it, make your own mistakes, and rise above them in time. And be respectful of others, and of the company's who provide you with your equipment.
take it easy,
