subs popping when changing songs? maybe rca's?

the only ground is the one from the wire harness and i belive the antenna, its just sitting in the space where it goes its in a grand marquis its not bolted down or anything if thats what your talking about
typically a hu will have internal connections to the chassis, but some have issues in this department. I ran a separate ground to the chassis of my hu to be safe.

however, you should be fine to ground to the screw

ok cool thanks for the help man and thanks everyone else that helped hopfully it will stop if not ill let you guys know what happens

ok so after grounding the RCA's(posted pics to make sure that was right i taped that peice down and made sure no wire was touching the pole peice going into the deck)and running 2 16 gauge speaker wires from the trunk to the back of the HU grounging the RCAs and its still making that popping sound when it changes songs its not doing it that loud to as were there bottoming out idk if this is because there in a sealed box right now or if it helped but it sounds nasty when it does that anyone have any ideas of what it could be?

we were thinking maybe its the deck as its old and has been being used for awhile but what do you guys think we should do to get this fixed?

Maybe I misread this, but... you ran wire from the HU to the trunk to ground the RCAs? I don't think that'd help much with grounding issues since the cables are so long.

You want any ground to be as short as possible.

have u tryed using an all together new set of patch cables. i had this happen to my highs amp it was in just the left ch. i changed out the patch cables and it was fine could be a bad wire.
ok what is a patch cable? is there a web site i can go to look at some?

so whould we run the wire up to the battery because where the deck goes there isnt so metal with a hole in it to where we can put a ground on and i did try to ground it to the screw on the back of the HU and that dint work either.

Grounding to the battery is still a pretty long ground. There has to be some sort of screw inside the car, maybe under the carpet near the base of the dash... something. There has to be something within a few feet of the deck. The dash isn't just floating there.

Make sure to sand any paint off of your ground point too. It has to be clean\shiny metal.

I know some headunits make a slight noise when switching tracks, not sure what its from.. its probably just your headunit.. got another you can try out?

the only way i can think of is if we take his whole **** dash off and put the screw but either way its going to be at least 4-5 feet for it if we dont take the dash off

well idk its never happend with his HU before but hes had it for a while so i was thinking it just old but its not a little noise he had his subs in a ported box and when he had the HU turned up like 3/4 of the way up they bottomed out when the song gets changed, he had a BIG A$$ pioneer old school deck looked like a nav deck but it was a regulag deck and it dint make the noise neither did my Alpine CDE-9852 but when i put that deck in my car it did the same thing
