Diyma 12" Sq

Well i just got my hands on a DIYMA 12" SQ and I must say I love the look/build quality of this woofer (its just as heavy as my AVA 15 was!). Not to mention the extreamly small box required for this woofer is great too. One thing tho is I cant seem to find a req power ratings for this woofer. I looked on ebay and they satated 1000 watts butt from what I have read they dont like that much power. Does anyone here have experience with them, if so what was used to power it, in what size box and how did it sound.

they take about 500 watts to get going not too much more thatn that.

The motor is strong enough to bring the cone rearward so far that the tinsel connectors hit the back of the cone and crease it at high excursions and 1k.

I see, has anyone doe any mods to the cones/tinsel leads to prevent this.

And the DIYMA doesn't need 1000 watts, even though it was rated at 1000 watts. I really like the look of the motor but I wouldn't own one due to how brittle the cone is. Just my $0.02. So to avoid any cone creasing or cone tattoo's I would run under RMS power handling in the specified enclosure that DIYMA suggested.

yeah I figured I would run it under the 1000 rms. I dont need lots of bass any way those days are over for me. I just need to have the completed sound when I listen to music. Thanks for the info tho. You are right the cone does seem flimsy but its still way sexy...

the problems they have had with the cones creasing was from to much power in to small of a box. usually subs in smaller boxes can handle more power. this sub doesn't follow that rule. if you use to small of a box and push it to hard the pressure inside the box will destroy the cone. a quick search on diymobileaudio.com will tell ya that. great sounding subs though apparently, but they just seem fragile.
