subs playing/working eachother

what does it mean when subs play/work off eachother(if that is what it is even called)? what i'm sayin is when two subs are right next to eachother facing the same direction, i've heard that they play off of eachother on the inside of the box since they are so close together. I dunno if the cone travel of one sub affects the cone travel of the other sub right next to it or what?? that is what i'm trying to describe... hope it helps describe what i am talkin about
