Subs in the backseat AND the trunk - what do you think?

Well in that sense not all amps HAVE TO BE CEA compliant... I.E. Sundown, AQ, Crescendo, SD, Cactus, Stetsom... see where I'm going here?
I wouldn't sweat "CEA Compliant" if you do the research on them and find they ARE putting out true rms power.
just a preference when i'm dealing with a small budget. can't get most of the ones you mentioned but definitely see your point.

$200 to $230 won't get me a good amp unless it's used, maybe decent at best. what amps should i look for, both new or used

Well if you want to put out a little more, or find a cheaper one, I'd recommend the Alpine MRX-M100, decent amp I enjoy it, never gets warm. 1000 rms @2ohms
That'd be great for one type r but not two...i'd have to wire it @ 4ohm and it would feed 300 rms to each sub...looking to feed 500+

It'd be pretty good for my pr's though, they're 250 rms (underrated)

That BRZ you were discussing earlier isn't bad by any means. Also, Audiopipe (even though I'm not a fan) makes good power per dollar. Look for a Powerbass ASA1000.1 (or more?) too because they make underrated stuff (older stuff) that you can often find killer deals on.
