subs in rear deck

I know what you are trying to accomplish Xlubin b/c I'm planning the same thing...sort of

I'm going to be putting 6.5 EU700's in the stock 6x9 locations in my IS300. I think that it should be a decent setup with small sealed enclosures attached to the underside. What does the underside of your rear deck look like and what car is it?

Here is what I have to work with...

I am wanting to do the same thing, but cut out my whole rear deck and rebuild it with MDF and build the box up, I will be using 2 99/9512's. The biggest problem is sealing the box and making sure nothing enters the trunk. That the rear deck is going to be completely sealed up

Dont cut out your WHOLE rear deck. Your chassis will flex like a biatch! You have to leave part of it there for some structure...

Chassis won't flex as long as he uses something strong in place of the sheet metal. MDF would be strong enough to keep the structural rigidity in tact.

You're kidding right?//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

MDF is not in any way going to keep a chassis from flexing. Do you have any idea how much force is involved with that...Seriously, do you?

The biggest problem one would face is the fact that glass doesn't like to flex at all...it tends to, well...shatter! If his rear deck flexes and the rear windshield DOESN'T what do you think is gonna happen:eek:

Right, but if his deck is properly supported with MDF and other materials, he should be alright. Don't get me wrong I'm not an advocate of cutting out a ton of the rear deck, in fact its easy to do rear deck subs without cutting out too much. You're right though I was just bein tarded //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

here's what i have in now:

they're infinity reference 6.5" (shallow mount) that i had in my doors until i got my REV's. i put them on an adapter i made out of some 1/4" abs.

i have my head unit faded all the way forward because i don't really like how they sound (or rear fill at all for that matter).

just talked to jmanpc and he told me the tang band 6x9 subs don't fit in stock 6x9 locations without cutting and making new mounting holes. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

which kinda pisses me off because i only got them for an easy install and being able to easily revert back to stock. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif

maybe PE should note that on their site, instead of saying:

Perfect for constructing a narrow-baffle subwoofer, or for automotive installs in factory 6" x 9" locations.
and not including any 'real' dimension (which would be needed to figure this out on your own).

also, these driver's aren't on TB's site, so no help there. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif
