subs hitting at differ times. off balance

which sub is 'out of time' ? the one closer to the port or the far one? you could always swap out subs in the box and see if the problem follows the sub or the spot in the box...

if you are bottoming out your subs it may just be too much power, it happens.

ok 1st i have to try to fully break in the newer one see if that fixes the problem then ill try to swap them if the problem persists. what do you think about the wall of plexi in front of sub. will it help

i am not sure i have never done that... it would be cool if you did that, only if it didnt impede the subs' performance or output. you could do a piece of smoked plexiglass and have a cool logo or something on it, idk just being creative for once lol...

you would think that if the sub just wasnt broken in as much as the other, it would just not move as much etc, but i guess it could slow the response down if everything is tighter. I dont see how it would make them out of 'time'/'alignment'... that seems like a loading issue in the box, this is just my own personal opinion, i'd love to have others chime in and see if i have any relevance here...

FWIW if you are feeding them subs too much power i dont see how being broken in would play as much of a role if they are getting spanked in the *** harder than they are supposed to be.

and im done!

well man if you have 2.2 minutes just swap out the subs and see if the issue follows the sub or stays in that one spot... its alot less time consuming than breaking it in for like 25 more hours to match the other.

ya thats what i was thinking was a smoked plexi with a red dd logo to match box which will be black carpet with the red port. i cant take the subs out until i get home which is where my tools are. thx for the help man

how in hell are you 18 and have a vette? lol i just noticed that... unless your age is off by about 25 years and you are in a horrific mid life crisis needing a vette and a stereo to boot!

Front loading the subs with your plexiglass idea wont solve the problem, merely mask it, and not by much at that. After seeing the enclosure, Im thinking the problem is most likely what I alluded to earlier, non-symmetrical port to sub location. If one sub is closer to the port than the other, this can and most times will alter cone motion when comparing the two drivers. Contrary to popular belief, pressure inside the enclosure is not uniform. Ideally in a shared chamber multi-sub ported setup, all subs will be equidistant to the port, so that each speaker will exhibit the same pressure variations at the same time. If one sub is closer to the port mouth than the other, pressure will not be the same between both drivers, and visible cone excursion difference can become present. This phenomenon is not always visible, but if the subs are not symmetrical about the port, its always present. Variances in subwoofer suspension compliance due to differences in break-in periods would only serve to increase this excursion variance.

ok so it no matter what its going to happen because sharing one port. so because one is more broke in it is just moving more than the other. thats what it looks like. does this hurt performance?

Yes. Yes, somewhat. And yes, somewhat.

Im not sure how much it will hurt performance, as in would rebuilding the enclosure symmetrically make an audible improvement, Ive never done this sort of A/B comparison, but you definitely want to keep what Ive said in mind for any future ported box building projects.
