Well I drive a 90 turbo dodge caravan //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and the stock system sounds like crap so Im gonna be putting together a new system here shortly. My budget is, as cheap as I can while still sounding good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. I have done some reading, for HU I was thinking a decent pioneer on ebay for ~100. Now the van has stock 5 1/4's up on the dash, should I replace those or just put some speakers in the doors? It would be preferred by far that I could just put them in the dash but if it sounds like *** nevermind. For the components I was thinking something along the lines of Infinity Reference series or some pioneers or something around the same price, the infinity's are really cheap on ebay and I could get a set for ~60 shipped. But I would like to run my components directly off the HU so I dont know how well they do. For amp I was thinking something like the Profile AP1000 like in this thread http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=93062 . But what I really havent decided on was the Subs. Now that amp can do

# RMS Output Power (4 Ohms): 160W x 2

# RMS Output Power (2 Ohms): 240W x 2

# Bridged RMS Output Power (4 Ohms): 480W x 1

So that would be what I have to work with. I really want a sub that doesnt sound muddy and crappy. Sound quality is important to me, but I also dont want a weak sounding system. But this won't be in any SPL competitions or anything. I am probably going to build my own box. So my budget Id say is about 200ish I would prefer closer to 150. Thats why I really didnt know if I should go with 1 or 2 subs.

Thanks for any suggestions on my system!

Thought Id edit this and say that I like to listen to Older classic rock, as well as newer rock, occasionally some rap and some techno too //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Get a Pioneer TS-W2000SPL... They slam for about $110 a piece. Theyre more SPL oriented but they sound really nice with any rock or jazz I listen to.

Pioneer actually made a newer version of this sub... It can handle more power and is slightly more expensive, but the amp you have might not power it very well, so go with the 2000SPL.http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4061_153020681,00.html

for your budget, i would go with 1 sub in a sick *** enclosure.

you can throw 2 subs in a sealed box but 1 sub in a ported box can sound just as or near as good. i think a single 10" or 12" will do. 12 if your leaning more of the rap/heavy metal music side or 10" for that clean SQ. but 12" offers good SQ as well as a 10" depending on sub.

the first investments should be the headunit and the front component set. idk if they sound like *** on the dash cause the cars ive own or driven had speakers on the door panel and tweeters by the mirror/dash. infinity makes great speakers, dunno about pioneer's component sets (do they even make them?). but search around some more, i heard cdt makes great components and run from $80+.

heres few sites to surf around:

Also I havent ordered anything yet so if you guys have a better suggestion for an amp or head unit please let me know //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif.

I read up on the TS-W2000SPL's and they sound pretty good actually, but I cant find anywhere cheap to buy them, cheapest I saw was around 140. Anyone know a place? I haven't decided on that sub just trying to pricesearch.

That's exactly what I was thinking..

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
pull up next to that at a stop light hear it spool up and have it spin its tires off the line and smoke your car... that would ****. i would have to be trading my car in for one of those

hehe the turbo minivan is nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Haven't done any upgrades for it yet but I have a decent Intercooler im going to put in and im going to upgrade to the garret t03 which could easily get me into the mid-low 14's which is enough for me right now. I was going to go all out but this is my daily driver //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Back to the subs, I found a guy selling 2 ts-w2000spl for 65each + shipping. Etronics is backordered. Im really really thinkin of getting those, the price is great for the subs. Just got to get a ported box since everyone says the 2000spl's sound much much better ported.

I decided on the alpine 9843 which I will get installed tomorrow unless I find a good reason not to //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif and Im going to splurge and get some nice Alpine 5000cl reference series 5 1/4's and 9603i for the back. Should sound great.
